Given there are many conflicts occurring that aren’t getting the same news coverage as Myanmar, Ukraine and the Middle East - here’s a thread to shed some light.
I’ll start with this link to the YouTube series Warfronts. I like it as it attempts to supply overviews without too much bias. Here’s a recent one on Ethiopia. Yikes.
Aw man. We could have an entire thread on the goings-on just in Africa. This stuff seems to be making the news - but somehow minimized.
Over a million people displaced just in Cameroon and the world is like ‘well that’s just Africa for you’. Crazy.
I don’t hold out a lot of hope though - between the generational impact of colonialism, to the tribal and religious conflicts, to the challenges with political stability and economic disparity, to unchecked population growth, availability of weapons etc etc etc etc.
Which really really sucks as these people deserve better but can’t seem to get out of their own way.
I have to live up to my moniker though so check out ItchyBoots YouTube channel and her motorbike travels for (usually) a different perspective on things.
I really feel for the people caught between the so-called secular war-criminals of the Assad regime and the Islamist (self-proclaimed moderate) rebels who want to bring in Sharia law.
Not exactly a team to root for here - except the citizens who just want to get on with their lives.
