Love, love, love Cynar!
But, back to licorice…
Ouzo rocks!
Really! You’re the only person I know who has said that. But then, I know of only 3 people who’ve tried it: you, me, and the person who had the bottle that I sipped a bit from (ehrgg).
I need to find some place that serves it. I’m adventuresome when it comes to trying new spirits, but Ouzo is not one I ever see in the 250ml bottles behind the counter.
Doooo eeeeet!!!
I’d swear I’ve had Ouzo before, but strangely, I can’t recall any specific incidence of actually drinking it. That being said, I feel like if you’re going to drink Ouzo, you might as well go all in and have some absinthe while you’re at it.
i love Ouzo and absinthe, naturally. i finally got around to trying fernet branca the other evening, and that is quite an interesting addition to a cocktail, let me tell you. Cynar is still on my list of things to get and try.
Any nice Greek restaurants around your way? Good bars usually have it but I find it may be off to the side with the less-ordered stuff like Pernod.
I remember watching this at the time and it was a good idea poorly executed. Mind you, I could never take Sylvester McCoy seriously as The Doctor because I’d only seen him do minor, bumbling comedy parts.
Ace was ace, though.
I noticed the Ouzo selection whilst in Binny’s last night.
Out of the three bottle options, I grabbed the one for $20.
Well, I wouldn’t drink it every day, but that definitely falls into “Yeah, I’ll drink that again” category.
Did you add some ice? It brings out a really cool chemical reaction: the drink turns cloudy.
Oh Canada, home of the weirdest icecream.
Not made with real tigers. Just so we’re clear.
edit: Possibly not with real licorice either, at least in the PC version. I had never actually heard of this, despite it apparently being a Canadian classic. Google tells me Kawartha Dairy makes this flavour too, which is the one I’d like to try. Sort of a frozen licorice allsort.
This was my sister’s fave growing up. I didn’t mind it despite hating real licorice, though, so I’d agree - not very much real licorice in there.
I don’t really remember why, but last night I encountered something about Finnish “Tar Lion” licorice, which is apparently tar-flavored? I looked it up, and ended up with that, Salmiakki (salt licorice), and a variety bag of “Licorice Allsorts” in my cart on amazon.
I figured maybe I’d pick one to try and delete the others.
Weird part was, they all came up as $0.00 (including shipping). I don’t know why. But long story short, I’m going to be getting a variety of Finnish licorice to try, for free. Because apparently the universe wants this to happen.
I expect I’ll probably be sick of licorice by the end of summer, but I’ve never had Finnish licorice before, so it’ll be interesting.
What sort of salmiakki?
Top tier:
My father, his friends and me have also tasted it… I would say is an adquired taste but goes well in certain cocktails.
As for my love of licorice…
(not recommended if you suffer from hypertension)
I go through a couple boxes a month
i’m jealous as hell about this. please report back with your reviews! licorice is delish.
These ones arrived today:
My family insisted I try it in front of them so they could see my reaction.
It’s actually very pleasant. Hard to describe. Tastes like a bonfire or a barbecue smells - the smell of burning wood or charcoal. Or kinda like those little bits that got scorched in the barbecue. The aftertaste is more of an after-feel, in that it feels like you had a cough drop. Tastes like smoke, feels like menthol. I like it.
Pussycat and I love the Panda!
Don’t love that they’ve removed the panda from the packaging these days. These are probably weak ass to hard core licorice heads. What should we try next?
