After I go read the Linux Mint forum comments from people who attempted the upgrade, I’ll back up my somewhat cleaned up data, download and install this timeshift
application Clem advises to take a snapshot of my machine, then let 'er rip! As long as my data doesn’t r.i.p. after the process, of course.
Timeshift looks really useful, and one fun thing about LM is installing the new mint apps on older releases. :3
I’ve been meaning to switch my Vista machine to Mint (missed the Win 10 upgrade window 'cos the machine is a hand-me-down and I didn’t own it when the free upgrade was available).
I had a drive failure a couple of months ago (around the time I disappeared for a while) and was unable to install Mint 18.3. IIRC, it’s install script would die as a result of my partitioning choices. I switched to KDE neon 5.8 (now 5.11) and I have been liking it. Not quite as seamless to configure as Mint, but it’s quite responsive.
