Major tax-filing websites secretly share income data with Meta

Disclosure: I work for one of the companies mentioned in this article, although not in a capacity that would come into contact with personal data, or influence technical decisions regarding the collection of this data.

Maybe when Elon is done running Twitter into the ground he can turn his attention to FB.

What irritates but doesn’t surprise me about this is that there’s no reason for a site like that to have third-party resources, especially not trackers.

In previous jobs I’ve pushed back when asked to embed things like that. At most one analytics tracker like Google Analytics. Usually the marketing manager won and like many other sites it’d end up with half a dozen tracking, marketing, and social network scripts embedded. But at least that was never for a financial website. It makes no sense at all for something like that.
