P.S. I should add that we as human beings can have very different ideas of some of these, and can be naive about others, which can result in unsuitable teachings for other human beings without, you know, aliens.
Pet peeve: Motorcycles parked on sidewalks. I thought that was only something done by thoughtless Americans.
But as I look closer, I see they have nice WIDE sidewalks. So good on them.
“It looks like a 6-foot turkey!”
“Do you like horror movies?”
“What?”
“Cause if you don’t think these are scary enough, they can…”
“I like horror movies! So they can eat me, instead of him!”
“Are you sure?”
“Yeah!”
“So you’re in the hot muggy marshes. There’s a river flowing through here, on its way to the sea. Smaller turkeys fly overhead. You can see a herd of Triceratops in the distance. Bigger predatory turkeys seem to be hunting small game. Suddenyly one turns towards you. It starts honking and flapping its gigantic wings. But this turkey can’t fly.”
“Can I back away? But I’m not taking my eyes off it.”
“Sure, you back away. But it’s the others who get you. These turkeys are pack hunters. Two more come in from your left and right. They knock you down and pierce your neck with these sickle claws. If you’re lucky the blood drains and you’re unconscious as they eat you…”
Headcanon where the Valar rather than Eru destroyed Numenor the Downfallen, and Eru made Earth round so it’d withstand that kind of damage a bit more easily. Not that it helps anyone on Earth withstand that kind of damage.
I keep having awful migraines and asthma attacks and a sore throat after drinking green tea. Apparently it contains more salicylates, including methyl salicylate, which is why green tea is a popular anti-infammatory killerpain.
I don’t have these reactions to black tea, it tends to help with my migraines and asthma attacks.
I assume something in the oxidation process neutralizes some of the methyl salicylate.
That said, this migraine just keeps getting worse. I wonder if there’s coffee contamination in something I’ve been eating.
Flue shot Wednesday, awful migraine Thursday, continuing exhaustion since.
Ugh. I don’t have the same triggers as you do, but I feel ya.
Vanquish is what my mom used take for her migraines, which I believe were emotional-stress-induced. Mine are more weather-induced, but stress can be a factor. I tried Imitrex back in the Oughts, but it would only last 5 hours.
Um…this has a bright white background but no autostart on the video.
I didn’t even know it was still being made - and now it’s being marketed for “digital” headaches! Weird!
Ah, thanks. It looks like it contains aspirin, so it’d trigger more migraines.
Oh ugh! Sorry 'bout that. But it’s still interesting (flounders aimlessly)…isn’t it? (looks hopeful)
There’s a private suv firing strobe lights outside my apartment.
I know government vehicles are often required to fire strobe lights, but … in what conceivable world could either be allowed? and is there anything I can do?
P.S. The National Highway Transportation Safety Administration safety complaint hotline can’t take civilian safety complaints, only drivers’ complaints about their own vehicles.
It’s 3:23 in the morning. I have been trying to sleep, but someone has been firing an orange hazard light outside for 18 minutes so far.
P.S. It went on 43 minutes. I’ll probably be sick through the next day.
Some web questions.
Okay.
These are on other shared fora. Not replies to blog posts.
Question 1:
Someone else compares one act of violence to another. I mention that the other can be lethal. They start insulting me for bringing up “bullshit.” I explain that this is a personal trauma. They then switch from insulting me for bringing up “bullshit” to complaining they can’t talk about the one type of violence because, whatever comparison they use, people will start talking about the other kind of violence…
Now I get the impression that they really don’t want discussions to wander what they consider “off-topic.”
And I … I expect most discussions to wander into related topics, and I am offended by what came off as a dismissal of the other violence, and by the insults.
Now we seem to have very different ideas of how to discuss things. How can I address this?
Question 2:
Someone else uses a favorite insult. I mention that the insult is associated with forced sterilization campaigns. They double, triple, or quadruple down, and sometimes I’m banned from the forum.
Question 3:
Someone links to a harmful site. I mention the migraine, or seizure, risks, as appropriate. Things go downhill, and sometimes I’m banned from the forum.
Not really a question. Just a vent.
Okay, I’m kinda wondering if this is related to an objection to “off-topic” matters… and if so, how can I point out that these attitudes, and policies and practices which reflect them, still hurt people?
I’m trying to remove tobacco fumes from some of my old reference books.
Some online suggestions include: 1. douse it in gasoline and light it on fire, or 2. just light it on fire, or 3. put baking soda in a plastic container, and the spacer, then the book, then close the lid and let it rest. I’m going with option 3.
Trying to re-learn how to bike. Got bike stabilizers. Had 2 falls. Getting better.
Apparently betadine isn’t supposed to fade in a few hours…?
So I’m looking for better ear protection for biking. My behind-the-ear protectors don’t fit well with my helmet. One suggestion was to use a ski or snowboarding helmet, since they tend to have some ear protection, even if it’s mainly against the cold. Anyone have specific suggestions?
We had a break last Sunday, but otherwise it’s been several days of relentless construction pain, leaving me with worse and worse migraines and nausea. And the migraines are getting worse because I can’t sleep, and I can’t sleep because the migraines are too bad.
Finally got my 1st booster.
Yay!!!
