Meh... for all of life's okay events

My husband and I sterilized fucking everything in this goddamned house. We’re not taking a toddler to the ICU with dehydration from diarrhea

“This must be Thursday. I never could get the hang of Thursdays."

Really need to find some motivation today.

I had a filling come out, possibly part of the tooth as well. It was almost a Fuck Today, but I called a dentist I haven’t seen in a few years, and he’ll be able to smooth out the sharp edge today, and then really fix it “once they are open” but I don’t know if that means next week, or “when all this is over”.

So, I have a temporary fix, and the edge isn’t sharp anymore. But, I won’t be able to get a regular appointment until possibly June or July. I hope it holds! And just to add to the “meh” of the whole thing, I am likely to need a root canal, but not likely to lose the tooth altogether. So there’s a tepid “yay”.

You’re taking this much better than I would have. I would have filed it under something stronger than “meh.”

Honestly, in the before time, I’d have been considerably freaked out. With everything, I’m just feeling, like, at least I’m not in pain at the moment.

Someday, I will complete a project that involve plumbing with one trip to the hardware store.

Today is not that day.

But the sun is out, I feel better than I have in some time, I’m Getting Shit Done™ and I still have two days off ahead of me.

Tried Netflix again. They added a new feature to disable autoplay for previews! The setting is only accessible from a web browser but applies to all devices. Guess they got an earful.

I just watched a new rocket launched for the first time, live, on my iPhone while riding in the subway.

One of those rare moments where I actually feel like I’m living in the future,

Today I had my first Zoom meeting.

I was the only one who used a fake background. That surprised me.

I used this image:

No one knew what it was. That surprised me too.

That’s amazing. I just had to replace my linux lenovo with a mac, and I can finally do backgrounds. I might steal this one.

Go for it. I tried a number of different options. The wide angle lens Kubrick used matches the computer’s POV very well.

I change my virtual background for every meeting, because I only use Zoom for non-work things. Everyone’s favorite was the stack of toilet paper I used early on, when that was the big news. One person even asked if it was real!

It’s turned humid on the east coast, so I finally got a chance to use my ceiling fan.

It feels good to have a gentle breeze moving around the room. Totally silent too.

My kids love their new beds.

But not enough to sleep past 6:30.

Today I used my oven for the first time since the weather turned hot in May. I’ve been avoiding hot foods and simply using the range as needed.

I reheated a slice of home-made pizza that has been in my freezer since that time.

I80 in Nebraska is one long speed trap.

Why I’ve kept my navigation on - since the last time it gave directions was this morning when it said “Stay on i80 for 472 miles” - I don’t know. But I guess it tries to be helpful by telling me of a speed trap every 5 to 10 miles.

Waze, or some other GPS? Google and Apple Maps don’t show speed traps.

Was it removed from Google Maps? Speed traps were added into Google Maps towards the end of last year, leading to a number of very outraged articles from police departments claiming it would harm public safety.

On a quick check, the option to add warnings of a speed trap still appears to be in there. I’ve never used it, of course, because trying to hit a bunch of stuff on the screen while driving’s a bad idea. They ought to make it a voice command (and surface the available voice commands in an easier-to-find way, while they’re at it).

This is news to me! I’ve never seen it. Is there a special screen?
