Oh, I’m sure that number is just the above-water portion of a much larger iceberg.
So this happened:
And while Spacey’s presence in the film no doubt has to do with a lot of it, the premise seems rather at odds with current sentiment, times being what they are:
And it’s been done already.
Heh. Hundredaire Boys Club just doesn’t have the same ring to it, now does it?
This is what we mean by collateral damage:

It’s more than just the direct victims that get harmed. These guys (and it’s usually guys that have the power) leave swaths of destruction, wherever they go.
The next fucking asshole who whines about abusers careers being ruined…
We’re still giving these assholes platforms. Fuck the redemption narrative. Let them rot in darkness.
ETA: some might argue that I am promoting this return to visibility by posting this, but I am not the publisher, I am not linking to the publisher (and neither did the tweeter, to help starve the publisher of clicks)… But it’s also important to look at the slimy way these assholes manipulate, almost instinctively, so we can recognise it, and not fall for it.
Maybe this is what Ghomeshi is going to review for the New York Review of Books next issue
That’s another one I can’t believe is getting a platform again.
That is Ghomeshi’s article.
Ah okay, I didn’t look. Thanks for taking one for the team.
Daniel José Older speaks the truth:
(No, AFAIK, DJ Older hasn’t been accused of anything, but as this is a comment on the phenomenon, I thought it belonged here).
Sounds like a major harassment story might be breaking about an institution through which I once held an appointment. Covering a bunch of people who I know to be serial harassers. I hate this. I hate that so many people I know had careers derailed, mental and physical safety abrogated, and suffered unquantifiable damage to their social and internal lives. I hope whatever is in this story scares other institutions. We’ve tried the carrots. We’ve tried describing diversity and its benefits. We’ve tried everything; time for the stick. If calculated self interest is all power understands, I hope this story gives it to them.

I don’t know what happened.
-
“Innocent until proven guilty” doesn’t mean “confirm unless proven guilty” and it doesn’t mean “therefore anyone who comes forward is guilty until proven innocent.”
-
Lots of people bottle it up and are unable to speak out until they have to. Lots are unable to speak out regardless.
-
“Every man has done something similar” wouldn’t make that right…
-
“Every man has done something similar” does put the men saying so in the wrong.
Let’s be really, really optimistic about the Democrats’ chances for taking the Senate this fall. If they do accomplish it, and gain the votes they need to block Kavanaugh’s appointment, then they still won’t have those Senators until January. Even if the Republicans are afraid that they won’t get the chance to confirm a right-wing nominee, they still have months to look into this before confirming.
If they’re worried about the cases that will be heard in the interim, well, they didn’t seem quite so concerned about only having eight judges for, you know, most of 2016.
Don’t forget “It happened to me, too.”
Being a victim doesn’t give one a pass to abuse others, or a get-out-jail-free card.
I can’t even hear the name of that Area Canadian Sex Pervert without wanting to scrub myself clean.
Everything about him is so greasy.
