Not Feminism 101

Burn the witch!

Clearly, duh.

Obviously the above is not how I feel, but given the subject matter and those whom the article is about… Well, Poe’s Law…

This is information I am looking for and cannot find, which is about how marriage dovetails with economic inequality. The princess dream, why women are so invested in marriage and men seem less so, the roles that each are expected to play and how that becomes a sort of prison for the people inside the marriage.

I just read an article by a woman who resisted getting married and then after having kids and being together many years, she and her partner decided to get legal. Then all of a sudden they fell into these roles they hadn’t before in their relationship and it sounded like it really grated on her but it was like, oh well, I’ll deal.

Seems like there would be a treasure trove of information analyzing Say Yes to the Dress and the bridal industry and all it is appealing to in women, but I cannot find much specifically on the subject of marriage and feminism.

Maybe try older sources, like de Beauvoir. I want to say Mary Wollstonecroft wrote about this too, but I can’t remember.

I used to have a book (lent it to someone who never gave it back, grrr) called The Meaning of Wife which might also be useful. Here’s an Amazon link:

Well, I find this frustrating.

All the jokes have already been made in the comments.

Um… they do realize that all women don’t actually need men to have sex, right?

Is it just pregnancy they’re trying to prevent?

Also this was hilarious:

The patriarchy has very little imagination.

It’s true. The first thing this reminded me of was that infamous review of Wonder Woman, where the male reviewer expressed confusion at the scene where Diana tells Steve that according to the scholar Cleo, men are required for procreation but not for pleasure.

There’s an implied /s there, right?

Most likely. The radiation environment etc of a Mars mission would be rather unfriendly to a healthy pregnancy.

Here’s a more direct link to the video. Love it!

What tepid applause. They should have been rushing the stage and cheering.

Gadsby is a marvel with how she cuts through all the noise.

These men don’t actually care who they hurt, so long as they are hurting people.

And fuck PayPal et. al for stealing people’s money. I don’t care if it violates the TOS… It’s not theirs.

Exactly. They shouldn’t have more power than the average bank.

Cindy Gallop has pointed out the on-line payment issue many times, in relation to her own “make love not porn” web site. To me it’s just bizarre. If it’s not illegal to buy porn with ash, why restrict using electronic means? I know why they say they do, but it makes no sense.

I read further; it’s not an actual official plan of action, but an old outdated suggestion that was made years ago.

This is a little unorthodox, but whatever:
