This version was fairly spiffy. Admittedly, I can’t compare it to the book, and know only one other version, the 1949 with June Allyson and Elizabeth Taylor.
The second version is prettier, but not better. I mean, it’s got June Allyson in it, after all; however, kudos to Margaret O’Brien’s portrayal of Beth.
Intersectionality matters. Part of why this is happening to this young lady is because of her skin color. She took matters into her own hands, because the system would do nothing to help her and others young girls and young women, and she will be punished for opposing the system.
