Not Feminism 101

When I bookmarked that video, I tagged it with “video”, “shrew”, and “wtf”.

Well done. :+1:

I thought we did salvage The Other Place… that’s why we’re here!

The movie it’s a trailer for is one of the sillier “science mistake makes big animals” trend of the 50s. IIRC the killer shrews in the movie are friendly dogs with some carpeting draped over them.

Nice play on words!

I’m a little surprised they got through this whole article without mentioning vibrators.

I can see women gaining sex partners who can talk and reason on a mature level because dashing men bots will have the option to be programmed to do so, unlike human men.
On the other extreme, men have already proven how low they can sink recently with the brutish damages to rented sex bots that have been reported.
I think we’re going to diverge more severely.

Mark this as a noted historical juncture of when the Morlocks and Eloi separate

Interesting. I wonder if Wells meant that as a metaphor for men vs. women?

Possibly, although the allegory is more usually read as proles vs bourgeois.

This makes Katie Roiphe make a lot more sense.

Gaslighting and now doxxing… She may call herself a feminist, but we’re not on the same side. And NYT can suck it.

I had the concept in mind when I wrote the comment, but abandoned it as I realized this was more of an issue of gender over class politics.

That’s how I always looked at it.

Men are gross. I don’t know why anyone puts up with us.

But yes, if someone were to hypothetically create a robot that possesses all of the positive attributes of a potential sexual partner but none of the negative attributes, that robot would be preferable to a human. However, that’s a massive hypothetical.

Besides, realistically, humans generally prefer human companionship. People can be legitimately interesting, and obviously much more real. I would have a much easier time relating to a human who is intensely interested in something because it drives them, than I would relating to a machine that possesses a lot of knowledge on a subject because they zapped it into their memory bank.
