O, Canada - all your canuck news worth sharing!

I looked this up and apparently it is a level of civil service employment, but does it have any additional implications?

Government jobs are fairly rigidly classified, to avoid at least the appearance of favoritism.

So, if two people have been doing the same job for the same length of time, they’ll have the same salary, because they have the same classification, level, and seniority.

There’s all sorts of classifications: CS (computers), AU (audit), MG (management), etc.

If I’m not mistaken, PM would be a Project Manager. The 04 represents the level at which they’re working: a PM-04 would have greater responsibilities than a -03, which in turn etc. etc.

I’m not sure, but I think that the “levels” are such that they act as an indication of “rank” (I can’t think of a better word); e.g. an MG-03 (if there is such a thing; I’ve never heard of anything less than an MG-05) would never be supervising a CS-04.

They also determine whether or not you are union (even while management, sometimes) or not and in some workplaces, which union and contract.

Government work is confusing, and I don’t mean the daily tasks.

Here is a link to the Treasury Board classification system:

https://www.canada.ca/en/treasury-board-secretariat/services/collective-agreements/occupational-groups.html

As @nimelennar mentioned, that classification determines everything from your role in your organisation to your payscale. In some cases there are strict rules on how to determine whether a candidate is qualified (other positions offer slightly more latitude).

I come from a civil service family. My parents met doing government work. So I might be a little more aware of this than most.

On the one hand, good on Holtby, and the other two Canadians not attending.

On the other, there were twelve Canadians on Washington’s roster last year; I’m disappointed that only three are declining.

Because Conservatives are all about getting that spending under control. Any day now.

I rather suspect Ontario gas stations are going to wind up looking like the cover of a teenager’s laptop over this.

So… that’s how they’re planning on making up the revenue shortfalls from all the liquor tax cuts?

Open for business? Or just Ford-approved ones. Please someone take that to court.

Meanwhile, BC just passed a mandate that all vehicles be non-emissions by 2040. Carbon tax is an old idea.

It’s like we’re living in two different countries.

Greed is gonna get ya. 4,500 leaches, no one bats any eye. It’s these folks trying for that little bit extra that ruin it for everyone.
