Olds go nostalgic for the good old days of tech

That design is interesting. It looks like three fish.

you might be able to use oven cleaner on it (like Easy-Off), too.

I have the powder. weirdly, between when I posted and now, I used it to scrub my toilet.
seems like it’d scratch the chrome or whatever, though?

@kxkvi it is nice, but not sure how they came up with it. the make is Toastmaster.

I wouldn’t be surprised – I don’t know how you’d figure it out though. Those rust spots make me wonder – has the chrome rusted through? Though I guess chrome isn’t supposed to rust, but . . . .

I ended up getting the crud off with acetone first

then used the old trick I’d heard on bike forums for getting rust off chrome: vinegar (or Coke) and a ball of aluminum foil. there’s still little rust spots that wouldn’t come off, and very fine circular marks from the scrubbing. I can always use Brasso or something later. but it looks presentable now, at least.

Nice!
Now don’t just go trying to fix it. You’ll end up with a time machine.

Barkeeper’s Friend isn’t Comet or Ajax; it’s much gentler.

I even use it to get the silver marks (from stainless steel silverware) off of porcelain.

But try the soft cream instead, just to be safe.

Which of the three do you use for porcelain? We have plates that are marked up like that.

Futurama?

The powder…really! Add the barest bit of water and scrub with a cloth or sponge.

The best: Grandpa’s advice, and the event that immediately follows it. I think we have this on VHS.

The cabin we stayed at in the early summers, starting from before I was born till 1974. Built by the man who ran Bass Cove Cabins, which included two more cabins; he also built his own house there. In Central Lake, MI, in Antrim County. These were taken in 1973…I think.
