Interesting to see DE-9 used instead of the more common yet incorrect term DB-9.
This does remind me though that I have all of zero nostalgia for scuzzy.
Reminds me of having to scour the boxes of old mice at a computer swap meet to find one with the specific port connector that my grandfatherās computer had - have never seen the like before or since.
Found one though, and now Iām having a moment of just missing computer swap meets
I always hated how similar the various newer display connectors are to each other and to USB.
Toslink isnāt too bad⦠except when a single speck of dust gets in the way, or you bend the cable too much or⦠yeah no itās bad.
Now that was a real connector. It felt important. On Macintosh it was a dream. USB is too easy.
Ah, the memories⦠Sacrificing a chicken at midnight over the SCSI drive chain to ensue it would work⦠Good times.
We cheated and sacrificed the chicken over the SCSI terminator, not the entire chain. Nearly as effective, and much less hassle.
I never had problems with SCSI beyond stuff like cables not properly plugged in or forgetting the terminator.
Apart from forgetting the terminator, I think it was a seriously robust protocol. Which might be where it got its reputation: once problems appeared there was usually more than one thing wrong.
I think our first was a Macintosh II/SE (or something similar), that form factor brings back memories.
A continuation.
The first 21 minutes are all about tubes/valves, something I donāt completely understand but enjoy listening to. So it is after 21 minutes that he starts playing some of the audio.
Just taking a minute to salute my iPad Mini 4.
It is almost 10 years old. I bought this in late October 2015 from the Apple Store in the Ridgedale Mall after I was fired from United Health Group. Well, they never actually hired me int he first place, really.
I bought it to demo time-based work at job interviews. Things like PowerPoint presentations and videos I created or edited. And it did so. It has logged a lot of travel miles.
I also used it in various Caribou Coffee locations to search for jobs, build my complete portfolio website, and kill some time.
I also intended to use it as my complete computer/media player if I needed to relocate. And it did so between 2017 and 2022.
Still going strong. The only defect is a scratch through the Apple on the back metal cover. Here I am in a hotel typing his out.
And, although it only uses iOS 15, Apple still occasionally gives it security updates. I just updated it last week, in fact. I would say this was $500 well spent.
