There are no good news sources in spanish that cover generalist news.
https://beteve.cat has good journalists, but covers only Barcelona and rarely national/international news that relate to Barcelona. Discovered them when trying to find reliable news sources about the 1O independence referendum and the subsequent riots when the goverment tried to stop it as ham-fistedly as possible. I was literally sending people the news thread on the guardian because there was no spanish newspaper that covered it without playing it like a fucking violent uprising (the violence came mostly from the cops and agitators that looked like cops), or like the fucking righteous crusade against the opressive spanish goverment (it was purely a political maneuver to put pressure on the central goverment).
https://www.lamarea.com is left leaning but really good, but basically runs only investigative pieces (would be, I think, a bit like a low-budget propublica, more than a newspaper). I really like what they do, but they basically run three-four articles a day at most, sometimes covering old news in depth.

I’m not sure if this applies, but it was a fun theory to come up with. Forgive me for the antiquated parts, as I feel I’m aging into that myself. Here goes:
We all know that knowledge is power (see, we already got some power!). What is reporting, whatever the subject, but the passing on of information? We’ve seen movies and even live situations which took place from the 1920s up until now., as well as in printed and radio-broadcast media. And there’s always a scramble to somehow get that news back to news HQ as soon as possible - to be first to know and pass on that which could be or is very important info. (celebrity articles only count if they’re dead)
Having something first-before-anyone-else is a recurring theme in history. But more often than not - maybe? - the reporting of it has been more important.
Wait…did i just correlate with Marshall McLuhan? Migawd, I am getting old. But two things that are of equal importance doesn’t change the form of how the content is presented.

Yes, although I’m frustrated that his most recent opinion piece is hand-wringing over calling Trump a “populist” when he was on the front lines of calling Trump a populist for years… Like, he insisted that Trump represents the “real working class” in America for quite a while now, and he wants to just… ignore that?

The New York Times seems pretty interested in ignoring the fact that they are a big part of the problem across the board and Brooks fits right in. I did say “maybe”! It’s probably more likely that he will go right back to smoothing the way for the next fascist culture war ideologue if we manage to get through the current crisis.

Yeah, no doubt… it’s also funny how he’s made an entire career out of attacking elites, and he himself IS an elite… both his parents were college professors, a category of people he loves to wag his finger at…
