disappointed(worst possible result for the Waltz) politely disappointed(worst possible result for the Double Quadrille) courteous(worst possible result for the Grand March) quietly pleased pleased(best possible result for the Grand March) openly pleased(best possible result for the Double Quadrille) enthusiastically pleased(best possible result for the Waltz)
Otherwise, it seems like itād be somewhere between āpleasedā and āopenly pleased,ā but āpleasedā is the best possible result for the Grand March.
Yes, indeed. All āvisibly pleasedā results are equivalent to āpleasedā and indicate a small success. Thatās what I get for tidying up the adjectives in the middle of generating the turn results.
If youāre angling for a position as copyeditor when all this is done, you are certainly building a compelling case. Thanks for catching that.
No thanks. Copyediting is lots of fun when itās just the occasional typo. I just have to read through well-written work smoothly, and then I trip over an error. Having to read through poorly-written, non-paragraphed walls of text that have to be rewritten totally, on the other handā¦ *shudder*
Besides, my writing style is (somewhat deliberately) tedious and sesquipedalian. My high school essays had the word āAWKā scrawled in every margin. Iām not sure anyone would want me to copyedit a longer work.
But youāre quite welcome; again, when the work is 99% of the way there, catching the few niggling bits isnāt any trouble.
@messana What is the difference between Space Hussars and the Space Dragoons? If we pick an ensign rank with one I assume we stick with that ranking structure right for future commissions?
Just at first glance, it looks like you get better +MIL bonuses per pound sterling spent in the Hussars, and better +Rank bonuses for the money in the Dragoons.
Iām wondering about the switching back-and-forth myself; with my limited income, it looks like the only way Iād be able to join the Dragoons (which, privileging a +Rank bonus, would be the better choice).
Just for the avoidance of doubt, and not that Iām suggesting that the purchasing of commissions in armed forces is inherently a bad idea, but Lord Cardigan isnāt still in charge of the Space Hussars, is he?
St-Patrick-Hartbrooke would fervently agree with that suggestion if you were to make it; he sees it as ābuying social standing.ā He might stop by Leviathanās at some point to grouse about it.
And bringing the main turn thread over here for additional Q&A - As @nimelennar points out earlier:
has the gist of it, although +MIL bonuses are equivalent in either outfitā¦ Space Hussars tend to to the majority of campaigning planetside, while the Space Dragoons primarily serve in orbit hence the improved rank options. Note that neither commission presents an obstacle to serving in either environment should the need arise.
Most certainly not! Purchasing a commission means in essence that your financial backing directly results in the support and maintenance of a body of soldiers of the appropriate size. You yourself are considered in command of that body of soldiers should they ever be called up to service.
No salary per se, but when command of the unit is relinquished under proper circumstances naturally, one will receive that invested measure back in full as a pension. In the meantime, one may look forward to all the respect and glory that such a position entails.
Also, it is worth mentioning that a lateral promotion from the Space Hussars of the Weatherbean Army to the Dragoons of the Weatherbean Space Navy is also possible if one can afford the differential. Although it may be said that the Dragoons never quite look upon an officer coming up from dirtside in quite the same way as one of their own, as one might recognize.
Given that Lt. Brummell managed to retire in one piece from the Charybdian Hussars, this entitles him to be reinstated at the rank of Ensign in the Weatherby Space Hussars at no immediate cost to himself. As entitites with former or current military experience, the same is true for Cmdr. Capstanturnbuckle (@pogo) and Cmdr. Piker (@fintastic) if they so choose.
