It’s irrational, but I have this feeling that the administration might try and get someone they like into the Papacy? Like, how could they, but I wouldn’t put it past them to make a ham-fisted effort to do so.

Back to topic:
I didn’t always agree with Pope Francis (I didn’t think he went far enough in his reforms for my personal taste), but I very much respected his attempts to refocus the Church on Jesus’s message of love for others. I wish he’d had more time, and I fear the more regressive forces in the institution may try to erase the progress he did make now that he’s gone.
