Oh, she was a woman and she wouldn’t name names, Soviet Russian to boot, so of course I’m not going to know about her, and neither are a lot of other people!
Now, back to being sincerely serious: Thank you for this information.
saw him once, in the 90s, in one of the ballrooms at the Nugget. the room was packed (it was Mother’s Day, so it was pretty clearly lots of moms and their gay sons), and probably smaller than he was used to playing in the 60s, but he was incredible. he was so generous to the band and to the audience, clearly enjoying his job, and never for a moment phoning a single song in. his voice was powerful and beautiful, and even though we were up literally against the ceiling in the back row, it felt like he was performing just for us. i’ll never forget it. i became an instant fan. RIP, Mr. Bennett, and thank you for the music.
What a fucking legend this woman was… refused to take no shit from anyone, refused to play the stupid games the industry played, refused to be silenced. We need far more in her mode making culture.
I know. It’s not like he was Bill Cosby, who is like comedy’s version of Henry Kissinger, as far as I’m concerned now, lol. I need to have a charity skeet shoot using BC’s LPs as vinyl pigeons.
