And here he is holding the guitar he used for the James Bond theme.

I would not have guessed it was a hollow body from 1939.

I still think Danbert Nobacon had the right idea.

Artist, author, librarian and (most famously) restauranteur Alice Brock, the titular heroine of Arlo Guthrie’s anthem “Alice’s Restaurant,” dead at 83. Sounds like she remained close to Arlo and his family to the very end. The song is going to feel a little different this Thanksgiving

Sad day!

“I was a champion welder, but now I’m a Rosie the Riveter,” she said, adding with a laugh, “How’d I get to be a riveter?”

Indeed. The same question was being asked at the time by Wendy the Welder, Jane the Janitor and Addy the Accountant.

I knew Wendy the Welder was a contemporaneous character with Rosie the Riveter but I hadn’t heard of Jane or Addy before, were they part of the so-called “Government Girls” lineup too? Google is remarkably unhelpful with that kind of thing these days.

I was joking, didn’t know there actually was a Wendy the Welder.

Gotcha. I thought you were referring to some other part of forgotten/erased American history I hadn’t heard of.

Your joke was right on the nose because that’s exactly what happened! Rosie became the most famous personification of the women’s wartime production movement because she was the one who had a Norman Rockwell illustration on the cover of The Saturday Evening Post. Soon the other characters like Wendy the Welder were forgotten and women like Lucille McDonald were being called “Rosies” regardless of occupation.

So sad to hear of her passing.

It fell to Harris, as chairman of the Democratic National Committee in 1969 and 1970, to help heal the party’s wounds from the tumultuous national convention in 1968 when protesters and police clashed in Chicago.

He ushered in rule changes that led to more women and minorities as convention delegates and in leadership positions.

He was also a Liverpool fan, and lived to see all but two of Liverpool’s major trophy wins so far.
