I don’t even know who this person is, but he seems like an asshole.
From wikipedia:
Nicholas John Gillespie (/ɡɪˈlɛspi/ ghil-ESP-ee]); born August 7, 1963) is an American libertarian journalist who was editor-in-chief of Reason magazine from 2000 to 2008 and editor-in-chief of Reason.com and Reason TV from 2008 to 2017.
How about that, huh?
“How am I going to afford slaves in this economy!?!” [/Libertarian]
For creeps of his ilk, the “out of context” ploy alone is a get out of jail free card, and without actually spending the time to review and understand the context.
Reminds me of one of Monty Python’s Flying Circus quicky quirky jokes: “The Golden Age of Colonic Irrigation” (or, as Edwina Monsoon said in defense of enemas: “It’s nothing to sniff at.”)
That’s a thought. This isn’t the first time that a Dem in Congress has turned on their constituents. Perhaps the DNC should consider adding a rule that DNC campaign funds given to such traitors be automatically clawed back.
Update from the inside:
Those of you who recall where I work may be interested to hear that I’ve seen the backend of a certain personality’s YouTube page.
This personality has recently broken out on his own, yet is still relying on my organisation’s facilities to make his “content”. He thinks he will be more successful being a dedicated YouTuber.
Yet according to his channel backend, his monthly figures have plateaued and are starting to drop, and his YouTube content is making less than £20,000 a month.
That sounds like a lot of money… before you realise he has a team of 10-20 producing this content and is paying us for the use of our facilities.
They probably don’t actually understand what context is.
please explain to me how this helps anyone?”
Maybe teach them that voting for narcissistic bastards with billionaire advisers is extremely self-destructive?
Point of order: if dude is a libertarian, then by definition he’s not “always happy to contribute to the greater good”.
Anyway, how about those leopards?
Libertarians live in such a counterfactual world that it’s hard to even say, honestly. The greater good is supposed to come from everybody pursuing self-interest, with things like supporting people who need it distorting the perfection of the market. So what does one contributing to the greater good even mean? Foregoing a government handout in favor of being selfish in other ways, maybe?
Likewise @DukeTrout mentions them as wanting slaves but honestly I think a lot of them don’t because they’ve never even thought about who does the work. You can see it every time libertarians design one of their ideal communities. They don’t pine for slaves to run the baths like Romans had, they get confused that nature hasn’t provided them a fully working sanitation system already. The invisible hand means that things you need are just supposed to happen while everyone sits around thinking about alloys and bitcoins.
Republicans are not libertarians but you can see the same thing every time one of them is shocked to discover the department of energy does things, not to mention Elon Musk and his genius ideas like how maintenance staff are overhead. None of them have any idea let alone appreciation of how much people do for them.
It is like the teenage boys in the basement playing video games that think Mom is going be there to bring them pizza rolls and drinks and that Dad will always keep paying the electric bill.
Indeed. Or like those older versions of them, who post videos of themselves getting stopped for speeding or an outdated vehicle registration, and then they refuse to speak to the cops, who politely read pieces of paper handed to them through a half open window that explain the (white, of course) driver’s rights as a person who does not respect nor believe in any “state” authority, never mind that they’re driving on roads paid for by all taxpayers.
They probably think it’s some sort of menstrual product.
…or cold pills.
And thus, on this day was the “Health Products” topic created which—when considering all the shit that led us here—includes mental health.
I love this for him!
4Chan was hacked, its source code was leaked, admin emails were leaked, AND a lot of registered users used their real names and .edu email addresses. Lotta CHUDs getting exposed to sunlight today.
It also appears this could be a site-killing hack - it appears nobody updated anything since 2016, and the leaks are basically showing the security holes were security canyons. Almost every user is now compromised. 4Chan is fucked.
LOL, someone called it the incelacaust.
