I went on FB and saw a local news article posted about the number of people likely to lose Medicaid and SNAP benefits if the bill promoted by passes in the Senate. The MAGA crowd filled the comments section with the same talking points. They claimed that all those millions about to be dropped are “illegals.” Also, since the bill would eliminate fraud and ensure able-bodied people have to work for what they receive, anyone against passage of the bill is in favor of waste, fraud, and abuse. They probably won’t stop until someone they know is personally affected. Even then, they might engage in victim-blaming until the day the victim is the face they see in the mirror.

I shouldn’t be surprised at their ignorance. Undocumented immigrants cannot get benefits like Medicaid and SNAP. The only exception is undocumented immigrants can get emergency Medicaid in the emergency room for life threatening conditions. Nothing else.
Even most lawfully present immigrants are barred from these programs.
