Yeah, I’m just thinking of the Hyde Amendment, the ways a certain political party have interfered with Medicaid, and the accessibility problems I’ve encountered.
If some form of universal healthcare ever emerges in the US, the only feasible way for women to receive proper medical care is for Congress to repeal the Hyde Amendment. Especially considering far-right religious zealots have convinced law makers that The Pill causes abortions every month. That’s not how it works, and it’s a pretty much the only non-surgical means available to treat endometriosis and ovarian cysts.
I still think they’re both too old, but damn, Bernie and Liz sure look like running mates already
i really don’t care about their age. i think either (or both!) would be great in office, and would be night and day compared to what we have now. but i’m also super impressed with mayor pete, and i also think beto did well tonight.
Did you guys watch it tonight… cause I just couldn’t… not in the mood at all.
That was the partner and I last night.
Partner - “Do you think you can find something on TV to watch?”
Me - “Sure, there’s gotta be something on…”
- find remote
- turn on TV
- wait for everything to come up
TV - “…to the Democratic Debate.”
- Turn TV off.
i did – and i was happy i did, even if it went on about a half hour longer than i was expecting. they were pretty scrappy, and there were a couple moments that made the audience burst in applause and cheers. i will be interested to see what happens tonight, because it must definitely be time for a shakeout after this.
I’d totally be down for a Warren/Sanders or Sanders/Warren ticket. Or Sanders/anyone or Warren/anyone, and the other can be Senate majority leader.
That would mean the Dems taking the Senate. I’m not sure I enjoy your optimism.
Who do you feel “won” this round?
i wasn’t really thinking in terms of absolute winners or losers – i was more interested in who was able to get their ideas across in a coherent fashion. the tag-team of sanders and warren was interesting to watch… they refused to cede any ground, and avoided attacking each other, which was smart. i think everyone else wanted them to go at each other with knives out. i thought beto and mayor pete had some really good moments, and i also think that (surprisingly) marianne williamson deserves props for her succinct explanation of her stance on reparations. nobody else seemed as unequivocal about them as she was, which i think will really help her. klobuchar was all right – she didn’t shine, and she didn’t falter. everyone else didn’t really make a whole lot of impression on me – it seemed like they were all just trying to get shots in at sanders and warren.
I wonder…in my lifetime, will there ever be a candidate for any office who avoids being vetted by simply telling her/his inquistors EVERYthing about their past, in great, glorious and BO-ring detail? It would be so refreshing!
Erma Bombeck wrote about a reporter from the National Enquirer going to her mom for some dirt…she got up to Erma’s potty-training before the reporter got so bored his teeth went numb (or something like that); she gave him a bag of homemade raisins to take with.
I’d almost rather lose the Presidential race in 2020 but flip the Senate while still keeping the House.
almost.
And don’t get me started on those Sweathogs.
I get the West Side Story and the Clockwork Orange references, but… What is the “roller skates” anecdote referring to? The Muppets Take Manhattan?
i’m gonna go with The Warriors.
Rollerball?
