In the testy exchange at a town hall packed with Biden supporters, the former vice president took umbrage with another accusation from the voter: that Biden is too old to run for president.

Biden, who is 77 years old, responded by challenging the voter to a pushup match, a running competition and an IQ test — offers that were greeted with audience applause.

Sorry Joe, you are nowhere except with your narrow suburban-idiot base.

People are doing good jobs at making Buttigieg seem managerial and stable. Reminds me of Macron, but even more boring in every respect. Obsessed with deficits and cost control too, just like every rich person’s attitude toward everything except his houses, yachts, and vices.

That article finished off sounding like older boomers talking about the election of 72. Resigned.

The left needs a new focus on actual new ideas as well as selling the transition package. The task is to sell the idea of getting to a future for all of us, getting there from an economy that is unforgivably and trivially lethal to anyone who gets in the way of the rich and the criminal.

It shouldn’t be hard to do but it’s dangerous to participate in. It has to be honest. That combo is a whole different kind of difficulty.

Funny how people are so afraid of new ideas when proposed by thoughtful, forward thinking legislators, but seem resigned to the world changing radically around them without any thought or planning or real benefit to themselves. More people need to read SF.

Buttigieg picked up Norwegian to read a novel by Erlend Loe. But I don’t think he writess SF.

Thhere are also right wing science fiction writers. No, I don’t mean little shits like Vox Day. I mean people who have been recognized as good writers and as fascists-- Jerry Pournelle and Larry Niven, for instance.

And, iirc, Gingrich also liked SF.

The authoritarian history of Vice isn’t exactly secret either

Two words. Robert Heinlein. Larry Niven may’ve advised Reagan, but Charles Manson read and practiced Heinlein’s ideas.

Kinda disappointed to hear about Larry Niven, though. My brother met him at a SF convention in the 1980s and got a chance to talk to him at length.

Keep talking, Uncle Joe. You can talk Trump right into another term if you work at it.

Is it inappropriate for a boomer to say “Ok, boomer”?

Nope, it’s appropriate, if the recipient boomer is being oblivious.

I (GenX) talked with my mother (Boomer) about the phrase, and being the empathetic person she is, she thought it was a funny retort. She even said that many people in her generation are morons who forgot the lessons of their youth, and messed up the economy and the planet with their idiocy.

I feel like OK, Boomer was MADE for Joe Biden.

That worked so well for Al Gore!

It’s a clickbait title. I read the article. He says basically, “I’d do what it takes to win. Like, I’d run with a Republican. If all the Republicans weren’t dicks. Which they all are.”

Yeah, I should have guessed. CNN is not what it once was.

It’s interesting… as an expat, I find that much of the news I see is filtered. Not by any malign influence, but just by sheer overwhelming volume of the same news from endless sources that drowns out lesser, quieter voices.

Joe and Bernie are both members of the Silent Generation

Trump and Warren are Boomers

Always knew about Heinlein. Loved his books when I was younger, but looking at them now, I see his “authority is good if it’s the right kind” running through them.

Didn’t know about Niven, but not really surprised.

Well, I guess I won’t be voting for Tom Steyer.
