So who do we elect this year?

Dangerous strobing on linked article.

P.S. I’ve reported the issue on Bugzilla.

It’s Birtherism, redux

I actually dared to read the comments (after dutifully reading that abysmal article) and they were both not a complete cesspool and generally more thoughtful and concise than the article itself.

Yeah, thank goodness some decent people read the article. I haven’t read much of Newsweak in a long, long time. When did it become an arm of Faux News?

CAN we learn from the mistakes made four years ago? WILL we?

Sad. Newsweek used to be like Time, but more serious.

Apart from rhetorical tactics, they haven’t changed.

Anyone ever hear of Caleb Maupin? He’s reporting that Kamala is a monster. From what I gather, he’s a “commie” (eyeroll).

This is what I see: The two-party system and capitalism alike, are seeing their day in the sun turn to night; and both parties and their wealthy members/backers are scared. So they want to scare everyone else, because who likes to be afraid alone, and besides it’s easier to sway public opinion using fear, even despite the divisions that exist. Those divisions also get united by fear sometimes, because humanity.

And I see no further than that, because I CAN’T. I refuse to extrapolate or forecast or make projections or fucking guess.

Regardless of the voting system, a society that is rich in skilled people is going to be wealthy and the control of it is going to be a great prize. The power structure is going to replicate itself in two alliance systems: the one worried more about optics and the one worried more about control. One of those is compatible with democracy and one is not. When the stakes are high enough the two factions will re-sort vertically based on who is willing to work with whom.

Right now the sorting is as polarized as it’s ever been but still a long way from complete, given how much the wealthy have come to value control over optics.

vertically?

sorting into layers, like oligarchs vs. non-archs, or into columns, like late-period populares or other cross-class factions? Because either one could be understood as sorting vertically.
