So who do we elect this year?

I like trains too.

Living where I do, trains are not used for commuting short distances. I took one from Windsor, ON to and from Toronto, and I enjoyed it immensely. Prior to that, the only time I’d been on a train that I remember was when we visited my Aunt Margaret (one of my mom’s sisters) and her family. Her husband worked for the railroad, so we got to go 'round the yard for a bit (I was four).

Yes, it’s true that Truman didn’t believe in social integration or women’s liberation. He did believe in protecting civil rights, however. Both attitudes, oddly enough, came from his upbringing; the former’s easy to figure out and was more extreme when he was younger. But the latter came from being surrounded by strong-willed women who got they wanted through common sense, intellect, compassion (his side of the family) and/or sheer force of personality (his mother-in-law) , as well as using the mores of the that era. And unlike his predecessor and the current POTUS, he had the necessary sincere humility. From last year:

Whatever. We’ll have to drag the DNC out by it’s classist, racist ankles just the same way.

At least he’s been persuaded to let the black lady on his bus, eh?

The democrat party really needs to come up with a better strategy than “We’ll put up the worst possible candidate just to show that even they are somewhat better than the opposition.” It didn’t work in 2016, and although it might work this time due to extenuating circumstances, it’s still a huge risk. And I get the strong sense that the younger generations are just not going to accept that in the future. Millenials and Zoomers really aren’t buying into it. The politicians really need to start picking candidates that people want to vote for.

The republicans meanwhile also put up the worst possible candidate, but they did it because it’s one that their people do want to vote for.

NO, WE have to pick the candidates. NOT the fucking corporations.

What if the bus never arrives at a place close to where you want to be? What if

This is true. I’ll be voting for Biden, not because I like him, but because the alternative is a corrupt bastard who will finish the job of dismantling democracy (such as it is) and institute a fascist dictatorship in its place.

And yet… I saw this on Twitter a few days ago, and I’m still feeling it:

Every. Single. Time.

I want to hope we’ll get something better at some point… but I don’t feel much faith we’ll get it from Biden. I hope I’m wrong about that.

Progress happens every day, but we don’t see it. The problem is that humans don’t evolve very quickly. Do you know there are folks who would keep the current POTUS if he would sign an executive order rendering all student loan debt null and void?

And remember: If Biden/Harris wins, we get A WHOLE NEW CABINET! YAAAAAAYYYYYY!!!

A huge number of my friends my own age, of all colors, genders, and faiths would. Democrats seem to really underestimate the extent to which people in their 20s and 30s are being crushed. I don’t understand why they won’t do anything to court Millennial and Gen Z. It’s almost like they want Trump to win so democracy can end.

Edit: and he’s rambled some shit that he’ll do exactly that. I’m fucking terrified he does.

Because they forgot, as so many humans do, what life is like when one has to struggle. Because they, too, are owned by corporations. And because student loan debt doesn’t affect all citizens directly (though it does indirectly). But remember, it’s not just Gen-Mins and Zs that are affected by student loan debt, it’s folks of all ages. Heck, if I’d taken out loans instead of using Pell grants to get my degree, I’d most certainly be further in debt than I am now.

Sure, but it matters a lot less if a Boomer or Gen Zer is in debt than a Millennial.

That’s a pretty absolute statement. And indirectly, it affects us all.

And the older gens have ALWAYS put down on the younger gens, for the most part, all throughout history. Like they fucking forget what being young is like.

We get a Cabinet, period! How many placeholders are there, at this point? “Acting” directors, so they don’t have to be authorized by Congress.

Thank you for the encouragement!

You’re most welcome. It helps to look back at history and see what we as a species have survived; the fact that we haven’t decimated the planet thus far is actually pretty amazing, considering the fact that we have the means to do so fairly quickly.

(THIS from someone who asked her son yesterday, “Am I naively cynical, or cynically naive?”)

That’s what baffles me. My generation (Gen X) is known for being pretty apathetic, so I understand if they overlook us, but Millenials and Zoomers are probably the most politically active and motivated group since the 1960s. They will tell you exactly what they want and what they’re willing to vote for. Yet the democrats ignore them entirely.

The closest they’ve come to even acknowledging that demographic was in 2016 when Clinton’s campaign took out an ad on the AOL homepage in a tone-deaf attempt to appeal to younger voters, not knowing how ridiculous it looked. Now they’re just not even trying.
