This is not a man who is at all interested in investing any energy now for projects that won’t bring him personal glory (or profit) while he’s still in office. Let alone something that most likely won’t happen until after he’s dead.

And in all fairness if Elon didn’t believe that he’d get to Mars within his lifetime he probably wouldn’t be pushing for Mars missions either.

Seriously, I very much doubt his comprehension of space in general and the solar system in particular goes anywhere beyond β€œSun” (visible during daytime, hurts eyes), β€œEarth” (where the golf courses are, flat) and β€œMoon” (sometimes visible at night, sometimes not, inexplicably changes shape). And β€œMars” and β€œMilky Way” are candy bars, you can’t β€œgo” there, that’s just fake news and a liberal conspiracy to swindle the US out of money, paid for by George Soros.
