I hope they know what theyβre doing.

Not even bakeware
the clearly do. they have decades of experience and flight in space and terrestrial between them. i think the suits look rad. they look a hell of a lot more comfortable and easier to move in than previous suits.
Thereβs no disputing taste.
To me the suits look like golf wear that would be worn by the upper-echelons of North Korean society.
They do look comfy, though.
Yea, that was disappointing⦠So close!
They look like motorcycle riding outfits
Do they even pressurize?
according to this article, yes:

and for those knocking them saying looking like they are from a movie, well, thatβs because the designer is a costume designer for movies. itβs style by intention:
If it looks like the spacesuit is built for a movie set, that could be because the suit designer is legendary Hollywood costume designer Jose Fernandez, who is known for costumes in blockbusters such as βWonder Woman,β βWolverine,β βBatman vs. Supermanβ and βCaptain America: Civil War.β
Personally, I blame Elon Musk.
But with wellies for some reason.
I assume their look is due to having a lighter pressure suit liner and all the insulation on the outside as a separate unit.
Overall, they seem to be pushing really hard for something functional that also looks science-fictional. Everything from the suits, to the interior of the capsule, to the tower and walkway, to the fricking motercade, all is very clearly geared to taking pretty pictures while also handling what itβs intended for.
As long as it doesnβt break the actual function these people are depending on, I donβt really see anything wrong with that. Iβm mildly worried about it creating a trend away from usability and safety, but at least at this point Iβm pretty sure the business interests involved are strongly aware of the negatives of causing a loss of life at this stage.
The Tesla βvansβ for the motercade really didnβt look very optimal for those suits, though. Looked a bit cramped, even though Iβm sure the astronauts are familiar with that feeling. The rotating seats in the capsule also had me wondering a bit about the trade-offs inherent in that designβ¦
Well, they want the clean reliable safe look of, say, The Ark in Space, or 2001, to reassure us that their whole system was designed to have a negative fault capacity.
