Not up to do the maths, seems like not having to climb the gravity well would make it easier. But I am most certainly not a rocket scientist!!

Oh, it would definitely save energy on that, but moving expenses into space comes with its own problems. We pool our resources when we make launches from the ground, while a satellite having to lug around and feed a recycling facility seems like it is going to take up a lot of its fuel budget.
