That might actually be worse than it hitting Earth. Have you read Seveneves?

This story with more details about the Starliner thruster glitches sure makes it sound like they were in an even more precarious position than what was publicly known at the time:
After reading this Iβm even more convinced than I was before that the Boeing executives who were insisting that it would be safe for the astronauts to ride Starliner home were lying through their teeth. In this case NASA officials had enough power and clout to override the company that built the spacecraft. Obviously that seems much less likely when it comes to anything in the future thatβs SpaceX related.
I had forgotten about Thundarr. Clearly a He-Man prototype.
Calamity Capsule indeed. NASA absolutely made the right call when they had it return empty.
And I already didnβt like Boeingβs attitude towards it all at the time. Now it seems even more irresponsible.

I LOVED that movie! Never did get Spaceballs2: The Search for More Money though.
I love that!!
I went to the Boeing Museum of Flight last month. There was barely any mention of the calamity capsule. It appeared they had had a display but it was removed and roped off.
Cannibalized for spare parts?
