Seems to me that JayDee is saying that people have a hierarchy of worth. And of course, white Christian republican males are at the top.
Think of it as a positive kind of Christianity.
Todayâs Oglaf. Copied instead of linked because the site is so, so NSFW and is probably on a lot of companies blocklists.
Last Sunday was the feast in honor of Iemanjå, the Goddess of the waters of the Yoruba religion. This Orisha is revered in Africa and in several countries in Latin America and the Caribbean, especially in the African-based religions of Cuba and Brazil. Municipal authorities estimate that around 25,000 adepts of Candomblé, Umbanda and sympathizers went to Ipanema Beach to throw offerings into the sea.
Beautiful photos! What a lovely ceremonyâŠ
It was a beautiful ceremony, indeed. The day before, the AfoxĂ© âFilhos de Gandhyâ, a kind of traditional street procession that takes place during Carnival days, carried out a kind of spiritual âcleansingâ of the place with percussion instruments, songs and lots of dancing.
The day was very, very hot and beautiful. I couldnât resist and asked someone to hold my camera and took a good dip in the sea among the faithful.
Oh, thatâs wonderful! Thanks for sharingâŠ
Dulin paraphrased what he said he had heard over and over from those who had quit the parish: âI am tired of being indicted because I am white. I am tired of being banged over the head every week about immigrants and LGBTQ, and I just want to come to church and be encouraged.â
âAnd this Jesus guy, he sounds way to woke. What the hell is he doing in our church?â
Por nada. You, Boing Boing exiles, are nice people and I tought youâd like to see something different.
Many people usually make offerings to IemanjĂĄ on New Yearâs Eve, to obtain the Goddessâs protection. But due to religious syncretism, this Orisha was related to Our Lady of Conception, whose feast day is precisely on the second day of February.
Despite the crowds on Rioâs beach, the biggest celebrations take place in the state of Bahia, especially in the capital, Salvador, which is said to be the city in the Americas with the largest population of African origin, a legacy of the nefarious transatlantic human trafficking. Below, thereâs a video about the feast.
Probably a foreigner!
Plus he doesnât look anything like the pictures Iâve seen of him!
That is absolutely true of most white people I know. They are all for equal rights as long as it is clear that they are more equal.
Thereâs also some serious denial in that congregation. They said the social justice message of the pastor was driving people away, evidenced by the shrinking of their congregation. But my parentâs church in Texas was forced to close last year due to declining attendance, and it wasnât a liberal church. Church attendance in the US has been declining for decades.
Yes, weâre (meaning the American people, as a whole) getting deeply anti-institution across the board⊠this isnât just a problem of the right wing, but all of us tend to have a distinct lack of trust and faith in institutions of all kinds - corporations, churches, government, schools, entertainment industry, etc, etcâŠ
