…10 refugee resettlement groups, seven of which are faith-based…
Short response:
I wondered who the 10 agencies are, i.e. from a Micah 6:8 standpoint…
Longer version:
The State Dep’t. website, archived from the Biden admin., also mentions that there are “10 non-profit resettlement agencies participating in the R&P Program under a cooperative agreement with the Department of State” but doesn’t specify who they are. The current state.gov website - quelle surprise! - doesn’t come up with anything about it if I try and search for it, & the website times out if I try adjusting the Biden-archive URL & making it current.
So the EMM, from this article, would be one… When Afghan refugees began settling in our area after the US military withdrawal, I know that the IRC, ECDC, Catholic Charities, & Lutheran Social Services were helping out. I looked around & found an HHS (not State Dept.) website that (at least for now) identifies the 10, for those curious. (The 1st 2 groups I mentioned are on the list, but not the latter 2 - of course no one has to work with the State Dept., & at this point probably shouldn’t, even if they meaningfully could - again this is just for my own curiosity).
(The other organization, outside of these 10, whereby a refugee might’ve been settled is/was Welcome Corps.)
their support for Israel is rooted in its role in the supposed end times: Jesus’ return to Earth, a bloody final battle at Armageddon, and Jesus ruling the world from the Temple Mount in Jerusalem. In this scenario, war is not something to be avoided, but something inevitable, desired by God, and celebratory.
Christian Zionists are anticipating, and hoping for a war to end all wars, and a resulting Christian world that they claim will vanquish evil and bring peace. Only those who accept Jesus as their savior will benefit from these events that Christian Zionists claim the Bible predicts will happen. Nonbelievers — including Jews and Muslims — will not survive them.
As I’ve been saying… The right wing in Jerusalem believes that they can channel and direct this to get what they want, too.
Sometimes I think they have turned their backs on the Bible and think they are living in an anime or manga, but not a funny one, they live in a generic shonen one…
I don’t know if this is all due to the excess of 1980s cartoons that Generation X watched, but today we see people who are too childish, who only see things in black and white, like the adventures on TV at the end of the cold war.
Right now so many of the world’s problems are black and white though. Genocide is not subtle. Stealing from the poor to give to the rich, destroying the environment for profit, persecuting LGBTQ+ people because they’re different are all things you can understand with 80s cartoon morality. The problem is people have them the wrong way up.
