Assigned Male Comics:

(I don’t know how thorough that list is, but it seems like a good start.)

ETA: Cautionary note…

And @Millie_Fink, anything is helpful. None of us have a total answer to what we should do, but together we can build up a library of ideas to get us all started… Thanks to you both…

I’m wondering about survival for those who are (already) struggling to get by financially. Maybe one thing to do, if possible, is to buy anything major that you’ve been thinking of getting soon, before the inflationary effect of threatened/impending tariffs really kicks in. I think anticipatory inflation might start very soon.

Tariffs will lead to higher prices paid by consumers. Corporate profits will get fatter. Trump will cut corporate taxes even further.

More money will get pumped into stock buybacks instead of wages. CEOs and wealthy investors will reap the spoils.

This was always the MAGA agenda.

See, that’s not even an aspect I’d considered… though, I think we (my family, I mean) will probably tighten our belt in the new year, hoard more, spend less.

Caveat to this comic: do not attempt to change gender markers in Texas. Absolutely do not go to the DMV or DPS to change your driver’s license or state ID.
Not only will they refuse the change they will scan all the paperwork you handed over and send it to MAGA Attorney General Paxton

As far as I know, the agency in charge of birth certificates are not narcing on trans people. But do not take the risk. The policy right now is no changes to the sex marker on birth certificates without a documented mistake by a hospital worker

Yeah. I’m thinking more for those who might soon need like, a refrigerator, or a furnace. Stuff they know they’ll l need to replace, and will likely buy new, but maybe keep putting off.

I’m just starting to think about it too. Ironically enough, given how huge inflation was in so many voters’ minds, inflation may well skyrocket if Tromp really does Institute his threatened tariffs.

Remember when there were all those mostly-finished cars that needed chips before they could be sold? Yeah, that’s the kind of thing we’ll be seeing.

Thanks, I added a note to that comment.

We are looking into transferring some of our savings into an international bank we can access from outside the USA.
I’m going to buy the kid some clothes a few sizes up during the holiday sales and stash them. That is one of the things that could get pricey.
We are prepping the garden and strategizing how to protect the plants during brutal summers. Food is also going to get more expensive.
My spouse thinks we should get our passports renewed. He is probably right
Also just generally buckling down and saving money

This also has the effect of raising prices already during the Biden era, so everyone can point at it and say it isn’t Trump’s fault.

ETA: I still haven’t processed this. As I typed the above I had a moment of detachment where I couldn’t believe this was really happening, that I was really writing about a coming Trump era

Thanks for starting this thread.

Have a bullet resistant panel for my backpack.

Probably will get a concealed carry license. Certainly will carry pepper spray & maybe bring my cane when walking. I was harassed a couple of times recently on my walk. I stopped walking. Need to start again.

Already have emergency gear & food; which I set up in Covid.

Need to renew my US passport

Think I’ll try and visit Dublin in January. Get a bank account there. Get their ID number. Get signed up for the cheapest health insurance, so I have basic coverage if I have to stay. See how things are progressing here from a safe distance.

Try to get bitten by a radioactive spider.

don’t know where you are looking and i don’t need to know. ScotiaBank worked well for us in Belize and Mexico. they are well represented all over the Caribbean and one need not be a multimillionaire to “offshore” with them. being hq’d in Canada lends a great deal of trust that you are not putting survival money in a bad actor. we keep “bug-out” money in Scotia, still.

current passport is a must! but we are not leaving yet. we will need to help others, first.

Bahamas are close enough to get to in a few hours. if i can help, i will.

Mine is valid for a good long while, but Kiddo’s expires in 2026 (damn 5-year youth passports). The renewal will be a 10-year one, but I shudder to think what restrictions and permissions and hoops will be in place for that two years from now.

How soon will they turn 16? Because applying early before they get around to making a mess of the State Department is probably worth the sooner-than-needed cost.

I’ve been researching these steps:

Also not sure if this still holds true, but will be checking it out soon:

What floors me about most “best destination country” lists is the complete lack of consideration for human rights track records, political instability, crime rates, and economic position. :woman_shrugging:t5: I’m looking at that before digging into concerns about racism and sexism.

Don’t forget your digital rights because if they’re not protected then safe spaces like this to organise will be threatened.

good point!
we are securing deeds and titles to all properties before january, to ensure that things don’t get delayed or otherwise bogged down in whatever may come after jan20th.
we cannot lose this place. if my SSDI is canceled, or mum’s DoD insurance and disability income (as widow of vietnam colonel shithead), we will have to fall back to bug-out options put in place after the first time this national mistake was made, in 2016.

and that is from a seat of relative privilege. that we are “undesiables” and “non-productive eaters” does make us targets, just further down the list from the obvious objects of hateful action.
whatever i can do to secure anyone less protected, i must.
i don’t know any other way.
