Why does everyone go on about poutine? It was unheard of in Toronto up to 10-15 years ago, and is a Quebec thing. The article mentions poutine vs pizza, but in fact, there are far more pizza places in Toronto than places that serve poutine.

They don’t really serve it in the U.S… I’d have some on vacation.

But pizza? I can walk to like 6 pizza joints in 4 minutes.

Related/unrelated: is there such a thing as “Canada style” or “Toronto style” pizza? In Cyprus, for some perplexing reason, there are multiple pizza chains that have branding that makes geographical reference to Canada. The most notable is “Toronto Pizza” (below) but there is (or was) also “Canada Pizza House” and one or two others as well.

The pizza situation is very similar here; both chains and independent places.

I’ve had poutine once. It was fine. Wouldn’t bother having it again. Toronto is more known for the multicultural cuisines than poutine. Within a 5 minute walk, I have Indian, Nepalese, Ethiopian, Ethiopian and did I mention Ethiopian?, a French patisserie, Hungarian, Ethiopian, Mexican, Thai …

I don’t think there’s a Toronto style pizza. There’s certainly a variety of thin and thick crust, toppings (some chains have some very good vegan/vegetarian pizza), but nothing I’d identify as Toronto style. So that’s a mystery.

Google says that yes, there is a Toronto style pizza which involves brushing on garlic infused olive onto the pizza. I have never encountered this.

Every city has those. But poutine? Not so much.

I believe “Toronto-Style Pizza” is a pizza that substitutes pepperoni with maple leaves. That’s all my mind can think of. They’re both red after all.

All this talk of poutine and pizza is making me hungry. And I’ve never had poutine! It looks tasty!

Meh. It’s fries with gravy and rubbery cheese curds.

It sounds so good.

I would suggest going to Montreal; maybe they have better poutine than Toronto.

A maple syrup sauce on dessert pizza might not be bad…although I never tried the Nutella pie offered at some pizza places.

I did have good poutine in Montreal, possibly because of the garlic cloves in the gravy. :yum:

We really need more variety in the Philly suburbs. Not only are there 10-15 pizza places in a five mile radius no matter which direction you drive, but I swear I could easily find 20 menus that are almost identical. I still don’t know how they all stay in business. :woman_shrugging:t5:

They’re cash businesses. It’s why Skinny Joey Merlino opened a cheesesteak joint.

Though - the mob probably uses weed stores for money laundering now. All cash only. Can’t use regular banks for finance or credit cards. Hell - they’re probably the ones lobbying against opening the weed business to financial institutions.

Garlic cloves in the gravy would make it tasty.

I will have to learn how to say “poutine” in French.
