Is poutine pizza a thing? It could have Gravy instead of pasta sauce?
We’ll be stopping by!
Usually anything that involves potatoes is pretty good. It would have to be made with gnocchi.
It’s hard to find decent poutine or pizza in the GTA. I found 1 pizza place during the 18 years I lived around there and it closed about a month after I found it. Come to Montreal for both.
A few restaurants in Montreal offer various versions, yeah, it’s a thing.
ETA: Though I don’t recommend Pizza Hut generally. There are many places here that make far better pizza.
One would hope!
Oddly enough, there’s a food truck in Cambridge UK that does poutine…
How is it?
I haven’t tried it yet, and unfortunately, I have no prior experience with poutine, so when I do, my report will just be about it, not comparative.
It’s technically edible once you wring the grease out of it, i guess. I shudder at the number of folks whose experience of “pizza” is limited to that place.
I find it mystifying that one of the larger Canadian pizza chains is called Boston Pizza. Boston is not known for their pizza in the US.
@Axolotl: Almost anything can be a pizza sauce or topping if you’re adventurous enough!
Really. That’s one of the first things I learned when I moved to Boston years ago for a few years.
The pizza really sucked.
With regard to poutine, I’d have to agree, if the one example I’ve had was any indication. As for pizza, I’ve rarely met a pizza I didn’t like, so it has to be really bad for me to notice. I have no point of comparison, having never been to Montreal. I think the best pizza I ever had was in Ottawa, about 40 years ago, and it was the first time I’d ever had thin crust pizza, and it was melt-in-your mouth crust.
I think Pizza Nova, Pizza Pizza and Pizza Hut are probably more well known than Boston Pizza. We have a Canadian chain; Pizzaiolo, which is okay.
When I was there, Ruggles was the only exception to that rule. Sadly, the place is gone now, but here’s an idea of what made it unique:

NGL, if someone found a recipe, I would try to make it myself. Some of my faves in PA also use cheeses other than mozzarella, like goat, blue, and ricotta.
Although, does Pizza Hut Canada resemble Pizza Hut USA enough to equate the two? Pizza Hut China is radically different than the US version, and better for it.
I would also recommend provolone and muenster.
An, I remember the pizza with tuna and black olives over thousand island dressing sauce. Looked unusual, but was delicious!
