Jon Anderson is 80. 80! Who sings this well at 80? Well…Jon Anderson apparently. I wish he and Steve Howe could get along, but that ship seems to have permanently sailed. The Band Geeks are a reasonable facsimile of Yes.
How anybody could be a Dropkick Murphys fan and MAGA is right up there with Richard Spencer being a Depeche Mode fan.
Still hits those notes. Amazing!
They’ve had to kick racist skinheads out of their shows before. There’s just a certain element that can’t believe that a group of Boston Irish-Americans wouldn’t be white supremacists.
Speaking of Dropkick Murphys….
ETA: You know what? That earns my money. I’m gonna order a couple of their CDs right now.
ETA2: Does anyone have a recommendation for where to buy music other than Amazon?
Is there a local CD shop in your area? If they have a website, you might be able to order it from there… here is the link to one of my local record shops, Criminal:
Hell, you could just order it from Criminal! They rock!
Or you can buy direct from the band?
Yeah I looked at their website. That’s a lot of vinyl. Then again, I couldn’t find a CD of This Machine Still Kills Fascists anywhere. Maybe I need to get a record player.
I’d say try an online indie record shop, then… you might be able to find it second hand that way? I’m actually surprised no one has set up an alternative to amazon’s music dominance the way that Bookshop has for indie book stores.
I think in general, lots of artists sell vinyl these days, as it’s popular among the collecting set. I think that they can sell it for more and get a bigger profit out of it.
The Sex Pistols without Johnny and with Glen Matlock? Sounds great, actually…
This is a fun jaunt into the past. Any article with the sentence “A lot of twaddle, I say.” is going to get on my good side.
Fast forward in time, this M.P. after the psychedelic era, disco, punk, hip-hop, heavy metal, K-pop, etc:
Come on, a RELIGIOUS CULT. Are you crazy! Every one knows that Beatles were a communist plot!
…back in the US… back in the US… Back in the USSR!…
i’ll take sax over violins, any day.
(puts on pedant hat)
Those videos both are giving me twitches. I realize a lot hinges on the definition of “hit” (and I am US-centric, which can affect these things) but I am seeing a lot of questionable labeling of “one hit wonder” in efforts to shoehorn things into the category for the sake of a video. The Babys didn’t have just that one big hit, they also scored just as high with Isn’t It Time, and Back on My Feet Again also hit the Top 40.
I looked up the referenced TikTok video and sure enough as I suspected, Gerry Rafferty is given as an example, as though Right Down the Line, Home and Dry, Get it Right Next Time weren’t also hits.
The worst example of this I saw was a video of Top 15 One Hit Wonders Of The 70s. It listed Silver Convention for Get Up and Boogie… while even mentioning their previous #1 hit Fly Robin Fly in the same video! Words have no meaning anymore.
