Giphy often let me down in that theyād offer gifs that were too megabyte-rich, and would end up as links instead.

IDK if she has an equivalent elsewhere but in the BB there are like 25k posts each with at least one gif, magnificiently threaded 
I stole several for mastodon, that suffers the same lack of giphy integration.

Yes, indeed true. When the giphy plugin came along it just made it easier to find the right one rather than trawling through a huge thread. Also there is a past me looking on with abject horror and judgement that future me needs gifs to react to something. Fuck you, past me!

And yeah i do miss having easy access to gifs while on PC, but i can fix that by opening a separate tab and looking for gifs on a search engine. On my phone i can get access to the gif feature on my keyboard i dont know if they embed into my posts and iām currently too lazy to check. Maybe later.

It is, but I think the most important thing is that the interface facilitates communication. Iād have been happy to learn a new interface (putting aside the entire Nazi bar aspect- funny how any hypothetical future where the BoingBoing community persisted on SuS requires ignoring that elephant in the room), if it had equal or enhanced functionality. But a comment system where you have to click back and forth to see more than one comment deep, where you canāt even italicize, let alone post images and linksā¦ thatās a comment system that actively discourages communication and participation, a system that exists as a grudging afterthought rather than a feature to attract and retain users. Notably, it also discourages fact checking, as nobody can cite sources easily.

Iāve been weaving in and out of all of the threads as I can, but I wanted to post something a bit more formal, and this seemed like a pretty good place to do it.
Iām @LockeCJ. I had that name over at BB, but I havenāt been active there in quite a while. I keep things running here, but I do not run things, per se. Iām doing my best to solicit feedback from the community on any decisions that seem important enough, but Iām always trying to improve.
That said, I am (pretty much) the sole administrator and only moderator here currently. Iām doing my best to keep up with the influx of new users, and so far everything is going fine, but I wanted to set expectations appropriately. Iām just one person, so please be patient. If youāre waiting on something from me, please donāt interpret that as me ignoring you, Iām probably just running behind, or doing something else. Iāll do my best to get to it as soon as I reasonably can.
Please do reach out if you need anything, and I hope you all can find this place a good community to be a part of.
