I know that “stall with with the spaghetti method” is standard for Drumpf, but if they’re not planning on following the law, why are the Drumpf Admin + DOJ bothering to reply? The courts lack the muscle to do anything unless the DOJ wants to.

Probably because polling shows that even a lot of hardcore MAGA people think the rule of law is important and if a judge orders them to do something they should do it.

Trump’s ultimate (if subconscious) aim in the longer term is to reach a point where polling is irrelevant - where whatever the voters think is irrelevant.

That’s what I’ve been wondering for some time; why are they going through the motions? Is this to give a veneer of legality for the base? I don’t think they even need the base now; the base served its purpose and can now be jettisoned like a used up rocket fuel tank.
