from “Where Are You Going, Where Have You Been?” by Joyce Carol Oates:

…hair that looked crazy as a wig and he was grinning at her…

He was standing in a strange way, leaning back against the car as if he were balancing himself…

…she saw how pale the skin around his eyes was, like holes that were not in shadow but instead in light…

She looked out to see Arnold Friend pause and then take a step toward the porch, lurching. He almost fell. But, like a clever drunken man, he managed to catch his balance. He wobbled in his high boots and grabbed hold of one of the porch posts…

One of his boots was at a strange angle, as if his foot wasn’t in it. It pointed out to the left, bent at the ankle…

Evidently his feet did not go all the way down; the boots must have been stuffed with something so that he would seem taller.

Never read the absolute confirmation that the character ‘Biff’ from the “Back to the Future” series was based on trump; yet here among so many parallel features the can’t-get-the-idiom-right continues (Biff was fond of shouting things like “Make like a leaf and get outta here!”):

Donald Trump Flubs Dig at Joe Biden’s Intelligence

THE BEST WORDS

President Donald Trump hurled another insult at Joe Biden during an address at Fort Bragg Tuesday, declaring that his predecessor was never the “sharpest bulb.” “I’ve known this guy for a long time. He was never the sharpest bulb,” Trump, 78, said of Biden, seemingly confusing the idioms “not the sharpest tool in the shed” and “not the brightest bulb” to indicate that someone is lacking intelligence. …

(hope all those who voted for trump remain as proud as a bangcock)

t***p has taken up ferret-legging at Stephen Miller’s suggestion as a way of appearing even more manly. Not with real ferrets of course, but with creatures chosen for their toothlessness. If you look closely you can make out Marco Rubio’s face on the left.

Now there’s a “dying sport” (says teh Wikis) that I am fairly happy to see die!

Whereas Trump is in reality a very blunt tool.

(There is a UK vernacular usage of the word ‘tool’ that some non-UKians may not be familiar with. I leave it to your imaginations.)

Is it an illegal sport, or is that only if you use squirrels?

Most GOP lawmakers plan to skip Trump’s big parade

POLITICO surveyed 50 Hill Republicans. Only seven said they’d stick around Saturday for the show.

Sounds like they’re afraid to be in DC then

Wow.
Government by AI.
Yikes.

So many questions:

  1. Does this mean that AI now knows some/all of the JFK file content?
  2. How much penetration do U.S. enemies have into the AI space? Is AI being used in other sensitive contexts?
  3. Will U.S. military use AI for decision-making as well? Have they already? Not for map analysis or numerical data calcs, but in real life and not mere war-gaming scenarios?
  4. Is Gabbard confusing her Director of National Intelligence job description with Director of Artificial Intelligence of National Intelligence?

Since making every @#$n dystopian scifi novel the realized goal, one presumes that the next system for governmental ‘A.I.’ to be connected to would be some sort of nuclear/ICBM system. (“…possibly space lasers too? either the Kosher sort or not.”)
