JFC the more I read this article the worse it gets.

Adding to the spectacle, a pop-up shop operated by 365 Campaign, a Tulsa, Oklahoma-based retailer that sells pro-Trump and other conservative-coded memorabilia, was set up on-site with campaign-style merchandise on Army property. Soldiers were seen purchasing clothing and tchotchkes, including “Make America Great Again” chain necklaces to faux credit cards labeled "White Privilege Card: Trumps Everything."

(Emphasis mine.)

But, as always, It’s OK If You’re A Republican:

In 2022, Biden received criticism for delivering a speech outside Independence Hall in Philadelphia that aimed to warn the public about the authoritarian impulses of then-former President Trump and his supporters.

He was flanked by two Marines in dress uniform.

Republicans and reporters immediately jumped on Biden, slamming him for politicizing the military.

“The only thing worse than Biden’s speech trashing his fellow citizens is wrapping himself in our flag and Marines to do it,” Rep. Darrell Issa, R-Calif., wrote on social media at the time.

Another Trump administration official, James Hutton, said Biden “used U.S. Marines as props” and slammed the move as “despicable conduct in attacking more than half of Americans.”

And of course, every member of the Marines and the National Guard sent to LA this week is being used as a prop – thousands of them!

What @LockeCJ said… it got played a LOT on TBS back in the day. It’s also a Coscarelli movie (the guy who directed the Phantasm movies and did Bubba Hotep).

It’s a redonkulous film, in the best way.

From the IMDB trivia:

The film performed only modestly at the box office, but it built a strong cult following over the years. In the US, it was replayed frequently on TV, notably HBO and TBS. It was shown so often that some dubbed TBS “The Beastmaster Station” and HBO as “Hey, Beastmaster is On”.

Also HBO (as in, “Hey, Beastmaster’s On!”). I remember Billy Crystal (in character as Howard Cosell) making a joke to that effect.

Oh man, I kinda can’t help but hope this boycott hurts Walmart, even though it’s stupid. Let them fight, I guess, right?

Not to mention that anyone who gets upset by the concept of a No Kings protest is really telling on themself…

Well a lot of harcore Trumpers have admitted they want a king, and they want Trump to be that king, so I don’t think they would see a problem there.

It was low hanging fruit, let’s share that beverage!

When nature gives you low-hanging fruit, make mead with it!

I kinda understand why walking away seems like the right move, but this is not simply making things easier for the assholes, who now have carte blanche to replace them?

Not specifically for the fullbright board, but specially for judges and prosecutors…

Yes. Probably the outcome the administration was hoping for.

It’s always good news for Trump is something we need to stop saying.

Besides- none of his people think studying overseas is valuable. What can you larn there that’s better than at good ole Bible College?

Maybe, but at some point, principled people have to decide if it’s better to stay and try to fight the regime from the inside, or to not remain a part of the regime at all.

Good question.

I suspect in some cases it may be a “well, he’s going to do it anyway, but we need to make clear we are not on board” situation.

And do they have much of a job left to do if he succeeds in preventing all those students taking up the scholarships?

Is resigning making it easier for the assholes? I guess it may depend on which assholes/non-assholes have the power to dismiss them. Trump claimed to fire the director of the National Portrait Gallery, a week or two ago, but it was suggested that he does not have the power to fire her, since the gallery is part of the Smithsonian, which is not run by the executive branch.

Who runs Fulbright? Is it under the Executive Branch? This question is not the point - my point is that whether it helps the assholes or not may depend on who is resigning and which assholes/non-assholes they actually report to.

In this case it may be that resignation made no material difference to policy (and nor would staying on have done so), but it DID at least contribute to the overall upswing in protest against the asshole-in-chief.
