I’m very glad he and Ms. Hannah are happy together. They both deserve it.

Not sure that this is appropriate here, but wouldn’t be surprised that the shooting has MAGA roots.

I hate that I knew the political affiliation of the victims before I read the article.

Reminds me of a certain family that fled to Russia because the US is too “woke.”

Forgot my scanning electron microscope at home so can’t find my violin.

It’s mostly 47 news, more’s the pity.

It’s 100% appropriate here. It’s stochastic terrorism. T****’s been doing it since 2015 and sooner.

UPDATE: It has been reported that Melissa and Mark Hortman have died from their wounds. John Hoffman and his wife are reportedly out of surgery and expected to recover from the attempted assassination.

Before dawn on June 14th, two Minnesota lawmakers and their spouses were shot inside their homes. Not in a war zone. Not in some distant coup. In Champlin. In Brooklyn Park. In their pajamas.

The man at the door looked like a cop. Blue shirt. Body armor. Possibly a fake squad car. He wasn’t a cop. He was there to kill.

At approximately 2:00 a.m., State Senator John Hoffman and his wife were shot inside their Champlin home. Roughly eight miles away, former Speaker of the Minnesota House Melissa Hortman and her husband were shot in their residence in Brooklyn Park. This was not random. This was not impulsive. This was a coordinated, targeted attack against democratically elected officials and their families.

Authorities say the shooter impersonated a law enforcement officer—complete with tactical gear and what appeared to be a squad car. The level of planning was unmistakable. This was a costume designed to disarm. A performance of legitimacy, hiding a weapon. He didn’t need a badge. He needed the illusion of one.

Just before sunrise, Brooklyn Park Police issued a shelter-in-place order for a three-mile radius near Edinburgh Golf Course. Residents were explicitly warned not to open the door for anyone claiming to be a police officer unless two officers were present and their identities had been confirmed by calling 911. The message was clear: the suspect was still out there, and he might still be knocking.

Governor Tim Walz activated the State Emergency Operations Center, pledging the full support of Minnesota’s Department of Public Safety. “We are monitoring the situation closely,” he said, adding that local law enforcement has the full weight of state resources behind them. The Hennepin County Sheriff’s Office and Brooklyn Park PD are coordinating the response. As of now, no arrests have been made. The suspect remains at large.

ABC News and BNO News both report that all four known victims—the two lawmakers and their spouses—suffered multiple gunshot wounds. At least two are described as being in grave condition. These were not warning shots. Whoever planned this came with intent to kill. These were assassination attempts, carried out in the sanctity of private homes, in the quietest hours of the morning.

A press conference was scheduled for mid-morning, but, no official transcript or statement from law enforcement has been released. We know what they’re going to say: that it’s under investigation, that the motive is unclear, that they’re doing everything they can. What they won’t say—but what we know—is that this was political. That this was symbolic. That it was meant to terrorize.

Because today is June 14th.

Flag Day. Donald Trump’s birthday. And what we call No Kings Day—a rejection of tyranny, of strongmen, of uniforms used as weapons and power worn like a mask.

We don’t know if the shooter picked this date on purpose. But the symbolism is too loud to ignore. A fake cop. A king’s birthday. An attack on the people’s representatives while Trump parades tanks and troops in celebration of himself. It doesn’t feel like coincidence. It feels like choreography.

This is domestic terror. Let’s stop pretending otherwise. This isn’t “a tragic incident” or “a possible impersonation.” This is a man in a police costume, attempting to assassinate elected officials in their homes. That is terrorism, and we owe it to the victims to call it what it is.

This is what tyranny looks like in 2025. It doesn’t come with a crown. It comes in tactical gear. It rings the doorbell and calls you by name. It pretends to serve. Then it shoots.

We’ll update this story as we learn more. But for now, remember this: the badge can lie. The law can be worn like a mask. And the king doesn’t need to be on the throne to send his message.

If you believe in democracy, you better start acting like it’s under attack—because it is.

well… it’s off for this stumbly old lump and his “Hands off NIH” (and other sciencey assertions) sign to the downtown Seattle “NoKing!” marchings. may it be peaceful and impressive.

Not that I doubt coordination of some sort took place, but without evidence so far that more than one person was involved, that one word is quite an . . . assumption.

So fucking awful, these shootings and all that inspired them. (I suppose my “all that” could loosely refer to “coordination” of a sort.)

Does this helps minnessotta Republicans (like, will they have better chance to pass laws with two democrats down?)

Yes, according to Wonkette;
The Minnesota House is split 67-67, and the Minnesota Senate has a plus-one majority for Democratic-Farm-Labor. These are targeted assassinations.

Thanks for that info. I wonder, though, if such members lost (especially this way?) won’t be replaced in any vote by officials of some sort who also serve as Democrats. I wonder if votes proceed as usual, despite a loss of congressional representatives.

Yeah, I think that guy’s hat indeed says Proud Boy.

I’d think that if they intend to shit-stir, they’d be more incognito.
