But they are big tough alpha boys who can easily destroy all these weak and womanly liburals!!! Their big boy hats and shirts will certainly scare them all away!!! /s
It looks like there are only 2 of them, and that they are far outnumbered by the No Kings protesters!
I suspect the arseholes want to be visible in order to provoke reactions. In all probability, they really do want some punches or rocks to be thrown in their direction.
Some people may consider it tantamount to incitement, to turn up like that.
turnout for No Kings protest rally in Key Largo was over twice that of the 5 April Hands Off protest. about 500 people with signs, cowbells, flags, doggos and costumes (the Mexican sombreros were a nice touch!) southbound traffic coming into the keys was slowed to a crawl, and according to our driver, the backup went up the island for five miles.
lots of support from passing cars, honking, waving, cheering and taking pictures. only a few middle fingers and two trucks that went around and around flying tRump flags and yelling obscenities. they so bigly mad, they had to drive by at least three times (to much laughter and pointing from the sign waving crowd).
standing there, beside two Vietnam vetrans with flags, wearing their fatigues and carrying signs that read “draft dodgers do not deserve a military parade”, it felt good, it felt like the correct thing to be doing. it felt all-American.
This is reminding me of the (apocryphal?) statement by Indira Gandhi when told women were under curfew because men were attacking them at night.
Why do the good people of Minnesota have to stay home on a beautiful Saturday? Why aren’t all LEOs on lockdown instead, so that if anyone appears in public and claims to be law enforcement, people can know to defend themselves against the miscreants?
(ETA: Wait, I think it was Golda Meir. Well, almost certainly apocryphal, no matter who supposedly said it!)
Just got back from the protest. I went to one of the smaller ones but from what I heard about 2000 people still showed up. Everything was peaceful, lots of supportive honking, no cops showing up to murder anyone. The closest thing to a counter protest was a sneering MTG lookalike waving a Trump flag, but she only drove past in an SUV briefly.
ETA: No photos because I left my phone at home, but the best sign was “No crown for the faux-king clown”. Love that wordplay.
Yeah, I feel that. There was a good turnout near me. Crowds lined the road for a half mile maybe? I went by myself, with my Bring Back Human Rights sign. Talked to more people than I do in most months, but everyone was great. Positive energy and a whole range of ages. It coincided with the pride parade but I ran out of steam and came home.
Some people talked about the national guard but I didn’t see them, nor any reason for them.
500 people on our little island is significant. Key Largo is home to fewer than 15,000 residents (including the town of Tavernier, at the southern end of the island).
that is very close to the 3.5 percent rule magic number. and that is coming from an unincorporated island community in very red-leaning Monroe County.
I traveled to the nearest big town, deep in a red state, and was really encouraged by the turnout. Plenty of people live here and work there but I hated doing that drive every day.
