Just heard this on NPR. Very, very scary.
Are we past the “first they came for…” stage yet? I mean, what the fuck?
Don’t get my hopes up like that!
I see Groesbeck sounds just like it did when I ran along it decades ago! The unmistakable sound of heavy vehicles whizzing by at high speed going over those tar street seams…
It’s also pretty decrepit with so many tool shops closed up and just left to rot where it runs through Warren.
Just as an aside, that entire assassination attempt still seems really weird to me. The regrowing ear aside, it bothers me to this day that the shooter had absolutely zero online presence, no clear motive, and no intense political leanings beyond being vaguely right wing (and even that seems to be mostly based on his affinity for certain gun brands). It feels like they tried to figure him out for a week or two, then just shrugged and gave up. I’m not suggesting a conspiracy but something about the whole thing just feels… off.
Bite me Mr. Voight.
“It’s come to a point where we really do need help, and thank God the president cares about Hollywood and movies,” he says. “He has a great love for Hollywood in that way. We’ve got to roll up our sleeves here. We can’t let it go down the drain like Detroit.”
Two of our nominal allies are on the brink of all-out nuclear war and Donald Trump learned about it from a reporter’s question in a press conference he half slept through.
It felt like the media (and Trump) couldn’t get a convenient narrative out of it that they could sink their teeth into (i.e. “liberal tries to kill Trump!”), and since Trump had not even a scratch and the shooter was dead, everyone lost interest because the story wasn’t doing anything for them. Trump got more mileage from vaguely being a martyr (the fewer details of any sort, the better), and the media weren’t interested in the story of how Trump’s cult was maybe curdling around its edges.
I appreciated Trump’s “astute analysis” that India and Pakistan had been fighting “for centuries,” obviously oblivious to the history of India, to partition, much less that it only happened in 1947. He can’t help but say something that he thinks is obvious, but then can’t help but elaborate on it with (grandiose) details that he thinks makes him seem like he’s really aware of the history, but actually reveals his total ignorance.
But yeah, it’s pretty disturbing that no one in the government right now, after all the layoffs and appointments of total incompetents, has any idea how to deal with this situation (or are even necessarily aware that maybe they should be mediating). Marco Rubio seems like the most competent, but he’s so completely out of his depth, he’s buried somewhere in the sediment of the benthic zone.
His aim
The time is right to finally make his dream project… “Midnight Cowboy II."
