The goddamn Trump Administration (Part 2)

He’s nothing without Ratso.

He needs to get one. Just so we can start saying Fatso and Ratso.

I’d say “yes” but hey I’m just one person.
Let’s ask… the mayor of Newark, New Jersey:

Hey, they can come and ask me for mine in person. Oh, that reminds me - I must sharpen my sword.

grimly wondered if they thought to consider whether this mayor had any-sort of security of his own prior to this overtly illegal gestapo kidnapping – y’know, to avoid the whole inevitable ‘fire fight’ scene @#$!

and (while i’m pre-coffee blathering), can we try to remember to pass laws, presuming we survive this era, that governmental police forces all have to identify themselves, as in not wearing !#$! masks!? naively would’ve assumed that were already such laws! @#$!

Y’know, I wish people would pick other cities that aren’t building solar farms on uninhabited property. Or maybe he meant one of the ones in Alabama, Illinois, Kansas, Maine, Oregon or Texas? I’m betting the one in 'bama is much worse, even though it’s got 237 residents (down from 247 in 2000).

And does he know that “Midnight Cowboy” - and many other male-buddy movies of that era - are basically about men loving men, and that the gay sex is made to be negative so the man-love will seem purer?

My guess is that if one squints just right, what one reads between the lines of Project 2025 is this: “laws are for suckers.”

“Two types of people laugh at the law: those that break it and those that make it.”
–Terry Pratchett, Night Watch

Aka “There must be in-groups whom the law protects but does not bind, alongside out-groups whom the law binds but does not protect.”

Since I am mid-coffee blathering, I’ll just (annoyingly) state the obvious, which is the masks are not a bug but a feature of the operating “system” we now find ourselves in. What are the next steps? I mean, what next steps should we be considering from our side? Because it is about sides, now. It just is.

Because some portion of our fellow Americans are ok with ICE’s illegality. And are ok with the blatant extreme corruption that pervades the current regime and its abettors.

I would say “organize,” but I think before that it needs to be “figure out how to get people to realize they should organize.”

Agree, and guilty as anyone myself. We are doing and seeing resistance in small ways but no organization. Not even sure where to look. We will continue doing what we can, but organizing is a skill set we just lack
Any and all suggestions are welcome!

Some good news for once from this regime… I suspect that both countries WERE looking for a way to deescalate the situation?

(so many rationally unanswerable questions unasked by media folks interviewing republicans @#$!)

Probably.
To paraphrase Ben Aaronovitch, like drunk young men doing the “don’t hold me back” pose while hoping that some of their mates care enough about them to do hold them back and beging secretly relieved when the constabulary shows up. Nobody gets their face smashed in, but they can still put out face-saving bullshit like “If the cops wouldn’t have showed up I would’ve [insert heroics of choice].”

Based on past history of mayors being assaulted and worse, I’m not sure this was ever a routine practice. The buildings in which pols work have security, but the elected officials themselves…not so much. This is why those news reports :tangerine:  was threatening members of Congress who could not afford to hire round the clock security for themselves and their families were such a concern.

Fortunately, there are many others like…

Rep. Jasmine Crockett during a hearing chaired by MTG on transgender athletes…

…or Jordan Klepper from The Daily Show covering the regime’s transgender military ban:

Contact the groups already organizing, share about new groups we find, and continue the resistance.

For those concerned about why these efforts are decentralized, I think Stacey Abrams makes a very good point in the video linked here:

Or maybe it’s cricket.
While the Falklands/Islas Malvina thing was ramping up, Punch had several suggestions how to deescalate. One of them was a crash programme to introduce cricket in Argentina, as no two cricketing nations had ever gone to war.
