Oh boy, RFK Jr. is really going to let Trump have it for being paid by big pharma. I’ll just sit here and wait for his blistering response.

It’a about time ALL world leaders (with the obvious exceptions of Orban, Netenyahu, Xi, Erdogan, Putin, etc.) all got together and said ‘fuck it’ and all ignored the orange shitgibbon and decided to be perfectly happy being on his bad side. Isolate the US. (Yeah sorry to those USians who don’t deserve that, but it needs to be done. Start treating the US as a pariah state until he is no longer in office. And yeah, I am feeling more than usually cranky today.)

Trump needs to be put on the bad side of a lot of other democratic nations. Anything else is tantamount to appeasement.

Seconded.

And I’m a USian.

i am very fortunate to have old colleagues and friends in Europe (more in Germany than anywhere else) who spend a lot of time on email essentially asking “wtf??..” about the states, and all i can do is to tell them that under no circumstances should they travel to the states (no, not even for world cup stuff) for at least [pulls up fuel-injected abacus] …(on horrid day # 161), 1300 days, (or roughly 42.7 months) @#$!!

Yeah. Two things helped me make the decision not to travel to the US (probably ever again).
Trump being elected first time, and when it became policy to fingerprint everyone applying for visa and visiting.

Elno and Melanoma should be first up.

And SCOTUS had already ruled this is unconstitutional in 2019, the last time Trump tried to pull this exact same shit. (Not that stare decisis means anything these days though.)

See, there were more wtfs for today.

I apologize for the long wait on the Faith Leaders Conference Call. AT&T ought to get its act together. Please pass along the word to the tens of thousands of people who are there. We may have to reschedule the call, but we’ll use another carrier the next time. AT&T obviously doesn’t know what they’re doing!

I’m doing a major Conference Call with Faith Leaders from all over the Country, and AT&T is totally unable to make their equipment work properly. This is the second time it’s happened. If the Boss of AT&T, whoever that may be, could get involved — It would be good. There are tens of thousands of people on the line!

And wtf is this about?

To show people how spoiled Countries have become with respect to the United States of America, and I have great respect for Japan, they won’t take our RICE, and yet they have a massive rice shortage. In other words, we’ll just be sending them a letter, and we love having them as a Trading Partner for many years to come.

He really doesn’t understand how market economies work.

I talked about rice elsewhere, and the “shortages” really aren’t, it’s more increase in demand due to tourists and a consequence of the Ukraine war, and panic buying (a la TP when the trade war(s) began) due to expected large typhoons and earthquakes.

The rice situation is expected to normalize soon when the next crop comes in.

As for cars… well. Maybe build cars that appeal to Japanese consumers? Like, smaller sedans instead of SUVs and pickups that don’t even fit on a lot of Japanese roads. :person_shrugging:

There’s a reason that Americans buy cars made by Japanese companies. They last.

I assumed that he was trying to force mad conditions if Japan bought rice. Like buying cars people don’t want for example.

Yeah, the US carmakers typically just bought brands in Europe. Much easier than making people buy US cars. Some people do buy them, but they are not common.

Nor are they, generally, likeable. If I see one of those pickups on the road I make some assumptions about the owner.

It’s like, ok, I can find middle ground with Trump on this one singular point: AT&T sucks. The big difference here is that Trump has at his disposal at least two government agencies that could take measures to try to force AT&T to suck less. Of course, he won’t do that, because it’s easier to scream into the void rather than actually do something.

Japan has a huge domestic economy for producing rice. It’s an industry that is culturally important, and one that the government wants to protect. To discourage the domestic industry being undercut by cheap foreign imports, they have a steep tariff on foreign rice.

Of course this relatively straightforward statement of, “Japan doesn’t buy US rice because it wants to protect its own domestic rice industry” is simply too nuanced for someone like Trump to understand. All he sees is caveman logic of, “Japan doesn’t buy American stuff. Japan must be punished.”

Hmm. I see. Have you tried paying your bill?

ETA:
Abby Phillip is a gem. She doesn’t suffer any foolishness and has to put up with an awful lot of crap. I just can’t stand her show because of the awful rightoid panelists that are on there. They don’t provide “balance” to the liberal/left panelists, they just blindly defend Trump, spout lies, and say absolutely disgusting and enraging things.

There was one panelist (Ryan Girdusky) who accused co-panelist Mehdi Hasan of being anti-semitic and then said, “I hope your beeper doesn’t go off”. That’s the caliber of people that are there to represent “the other side.”

There are some wonderful panelists like John Fugelsang and Nayerra Haq to represent the left/liberal side, and I’ll often tune in when they are on, but more often than not when her show comes on, I do something else. I don’t need that extra stress and anger in my life.

And they never will, because of the trauma of being starved into submission (and fire bombed into oblivion and nuked…). It is a national priority to be able to produce the main staple crop locally.
