The goddamn Trump Administration (Part 2)

It’s particularly funny given that, if Trump’s characterization of the order is at all accurate, it does absolutely nothing, making it one of the least consequential executive orders in US history (along with a whole bunch of Trump’s other performative bullshit).

Today I was thinking about people that make fun of how Trump talks about “losing money” via international trade, comparing it to the idea that you’re “losing money” by buying groceries (or whatever), and realizing that it actually isn’t a comparison that works for Trump, because he’s famous for buying things and then not paying for them (and, in fact, it became a business strategy to do business with small companies that he could then not pay and they’d go bankrupt and not have the money to sue him for what he owed). The basic idea that you spend money to buy something might actually be beyond him, the most basic ideas of how commerce functions that everyone else understands, he doesn’t get, much less everything else about how markets work.

Trump being an idiot who has also started a trade war with the entire world, leaving him in the weakest possible position for any trade negotiations, is what’s so absurd about his declaration that the US will have favored nation status without anyone actually… agreeing to it. Like, how does he think that’s going to work? He’ll just declare it so, and every drug producing entity in the world will just go along with it (as if it’s even possible, given the range of entities selling drugs in different markets and the various factors that determine prices in different countries), rather than just saying, “LOL, fuck off.”

That Trump’s framing this statement (which is the goal, rather than the plan, yet again) as this great achievement, that somehow he’s this genius for thinking of doing this thing that no one else could have/would have thought of… it makes it all the funnier (and aggravating, simultaneously).

Does he not understand it will take hundreds of millions of dollars to outfit the gift to make it safe for him to use and probably take years to do.

So the fact that the Defense Department is getting a GIFT, FREE OF CHARGE, of a 747 aircraft to replace the 40 year old Air Force One, temporarily, in a very public and transparent transaction, so bothers the Crooked Democrats that they insist we pay, TOP DOLLAR, for the plane. Anybody can do that! The Dems are World Class Losers!!! MAGA

Whatever happened to the new Air Force One he spent so much time ordering during his first administration?

I second @KathyPartdeux 's comment above.

Any half-awake security professional knows they’re only allowed to assume “full of that tech”.

“I’m sure it’ll be fine” is not a thought they’re allowed to have.

 Will their flights be landing at Newark with a connection to Greater Idaho? Asking for a friend…

And at the end of Dump’s term, should that occur, this very expensive “gift” will go to the Dump Library Foundation and a new Air Force One will have to be built at taxpayer expense for the next president?

Cue pharma companies cutting production. They’re not going to make stuff without knowing how much they’re going to make on it.

Just like non-pharma companies reacting to tariffs.

Here comes empty shelves and empty pharmacies.

No doubt we’ll be hearing from MAGA types who are outraged their tax dollars are once again helping refugees…

That’s what I’ve read, which raises the exciting possibility it won’t even be ready by the time Trump leaves office, which means, if sanity is restored, he’ll never see the inside of it. Fingers crossed.

I really fucking hate how anodyne and banal MSM makes these actions seem in the name of editorial neutrality.

It’s ok. Speaking as a native English speaker I can confidently say most of what he writes is basically incomprehensible nonsense.

The rest of the world needs to pay their fair share! Or something. It’s laughable that he blames democrats for this when they are the ones who for decades have been pushing for reforms that lower drug prices. This is also another case of him saying something with little substance and no real plan behind it that will only cause more chaos and confusion.

Assuming the FDA doesn’t ban them because they want people to lose weight “naturally” which is exactly the kind of shit I can see RFK Jr and his band of “wellness influencers” promoting.

OMG Trump fucking negotiated this. He insisted Boeing retrofit existing planes rather than build new ones to save a paltry $1bn and this caused the massive delays as a result. Yes, it would have cost more, but it’s easier to build to spec than rip something “down to the studs” so to speak and rebuild it.

Here we go…

A preliminary estimate from the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office said the proposals would reduce the number of people with health care by 8.6 million over the decade.

So the billionaire tax cut can be funded.
