Right, which is why I specified âif sanity is restored,*â because in that case, either the plane is the property of the US government, or itâs an illegal emolument. The whole âitâs a donation to the libraryâ dodge doesnât avoid the issue, especially if he actually takes possession, as then the Reagan library doesnât work as a precedent (because that plane was being decommissioned and it sat in the library). In either case, if itâs a gift to the government or an emolument, Trump doesnât get to see the inside of it.
*Which I recognize is, right now, a pretty big caveat.

Oh, but itâs a pause, so Trump has still managed to fuck over US businesses who continue to have to deal with the uncertainty and high tariffs (30% is pretty insane). And weâre still going to have a period of shortages until the next fleet of shipping containers gets here in a month or so (if they do, given the continuing uncertainly and tariffs).
As soon as I heard the breathless talks about how a âdealâ had been reached my only thought was, âI bet this will end up being worse than had nothing been done to start with and not worth all the turmoil it causedâ, because thatâs pretty much how these all end up in the end.
