I’ve seen it reported that there’s definitely no legal way for them to take California’s because ownership was signed over to a non-federal entity. Many millions have been invested in the state-of-the-art display structure that’s nearly complete. Certainly there would be an enormous legal battle and even the Trump-friendly judiciary would have trouble trying to justify the feds taking it back. And even if they did somehow get the courts to agree good luck towing that thing through miles of Los Angeles streets without major acts of civil disobedience stopping it in its tracks. It was a huge ordeal to transport it into L.A. when the public and local government was happy and cooperative.
The one at the Smithsonian shouldn’t be taken either, but there’s at least a tiny, tiny bit of legal gray zone there since the Smithsonian is kinda sorta a Federal entity, if you’re a Trumpist judge and you squint hard enough.
The one that’s unambiguously still under the control of NASA is at the Kennedy Space Center in Florida. And it would be stupid but amusing to see the red-state Senators fight with each other over that one.

On the radio this morning a NPR reporter in D.C. said he witnessed about a dozen FBI agents swarm the site of a minor fender-bender auto accident that the Capitol police already had well in hand. Even for a fascist police state that’s not exactly a prudent use of resources.
