It’s a start.
I don’t know if Donald “Ol’ Bruisy” Trump wants to dunk on Springsteen for having what he says is “atrophied skin”.
I’m not really a fan of Springsteen (I think he’s an outstanding songwriter, but in general his music and singing aren’t really my cup of tea). However, throughout many decades of performing and songwriting, he’s brought happiness, joy, and inspiration to countless people around the world. Hell, his music inspired a pretty good film in “Blinded by the Light” (which despite its many “feel good” aspects, is also pretty dark – sort of like Springsteen’s best songs come to think of it.)
Trump on the other hand can only suck all the happiness and joy out of the room, and has never intentionally done anything to make anybody happy.
So, you know what, I’ll take Bruce over Trump any day.
My brother in law is in the music biz and told a story (that I’m hazily recalling – but I think the point is easy enough to understand). There was this one time that he was kind of tipsy at a bar during some sort of party/event. There was a discussion going on about Springsteen, and he loudly proclaimed how he didn’t really think that Springsteen was all that great. Cut to one of those, “he’s standing behind me right now isn’t he” moments. Apparently Bruce took it in stride saying something along the lines of, “sorry, I’ll try to do better next time”.
“relatively low revenue generation”.
They’re pricing in the expected tax cuts. And traditional Republican deficits. Everything the government buys will cost more.
So I understand why financial institutions are saying that our finances are a huge mess, but I’ve always been a little confused what a credit rating even means when applied to a country that, when push comes to shove, can print its own money and whose debt is issued in its own currency. Does a lower credit rating mean that they think that the US won’t pay its debts (which is possible if Congress ever foolishly decides to not increase the borrowing limit, but that’s a constant threat even in relatively good times) or is this more about the risk of hyperinflation from printing too much money? If it’s about hyperinflation, then a lowered credit rating would imply a lower rating for every business that’s dealing with dollars, wouldn’t it?
It means you have to pay higher interest rate on your bonds to cover the additional risk. Your risk of default is seen as higher than it was when your rating is lowered.
It means that say - China & Japan may not buy your treasury bonds. It means that you look less stable internationally and weaker. It means that your costs have risen and you can buy less.
Some countries do issue bonds to be repaid in dollars. It’s about stability and making sure investors get their money back regardless of the instability of the country’s currency.
For the U.S. - it brings into question whether the dollar remains the reserve currency for the world.
Noteworthy in part because it’s partly wrong, no? Wont the Repubs just keep trying until a nonetheless shitty budget finally is passed?
But Dems may be able to get some demands that lessen the awfulness. Maybe. If they need some Dem votes to pass something because the furthest right assholes won’t budge on their demands.
It could be less bad. Which is some good.
A non-US friend who understands finance pointed out that this a massive question for the rest of the world too. He compared it to “your flight is cancelled but we’ve arranged a bus” for the world economy.
Yeah. So not a “crushing defeat” for Tramp. More clickbait bs I suppose.
Also, it says something that, even with his own party in control and all the bluster about having a “mandate”, he can’t just get a rubber stamp.
I wouldn’t stake anything on it, of course, but it’s a crack in the facade.
He does look weak. An admin that was competent and could keep its people onboard wouldn’t be in this position. It wouldn’t need to make concessions after the vote because it wouldn’t go for a vote before he had the votes.
But yeah. The Dems are still in the minority and have a limited range of options.
Trump has taught everyone that if you call his bluff- he’ll back down.
I’m really hoping that the Carney government will be able to accept at-risk people from the U.S. to Canada, particularly LGBTQ+ people. One of his kids, Sasha is non-binary and identifies as trans, so at least on a personal level, he’s likely sympathetic. Whether that can translate into political action remains to be seen.
From your lips etc!
I also got 92%, based on*: does it sound like a joke to get a laugh, or does it sound like an alcoholic making justifications.
*I thought it would be based on watching a lot of Simpsons, but only directly recognized one (rather famous) quote.
I thought Donnie knew all about branding. But here he is; ruining the brand of an entire country.
He’s not happy with the Supreme Court.
The Supreme Court has just ruled that the worst murderers, drug dealers, gang members, and even those who are mentally insane, who came into our Country illegally, are not allowed to be forced out without going through a long, protracted, and expensive Legal Process, one that will take, possibly, many years for each person, and one that will allow these people to commit many crimes before they even see the inside of a Courthouse. The result of this decision will let more CRIMINALS pour into our Country, doing great harm to our cherished American public. It will also encourage other criminals to illegally enter our Country, wreaking havoc and bedlam wherever they go. The Supreme Court of the United States is not allowing me to do what I was elected to do. Sleepy Joe Biden allowed MILLIONS of Criminal Aliens to come into our Country without any “PROCESS” but, in order to get them out of our Country, we have to go through a long and extended PROCESS. In any event, thank you to Justice Alito and Justice Thomas for attempting to protect our Country. This is a bad and dangerous day for America!
Loves slinging around labels, absolutely hates being forced to prove them legally.
And, again, that’s not what asylum means, idiot!
[Edit] Wait… can’t someone start saying those South African “refugees” are mentally insane now?
If only there had been legislation put forth by the previous Congress that could have added more immigration judges thus making the process move faster.
Oh wait, there was, and Trump made sure it was scuttled.
