If North Korea or any other rogue state ever wanted to attack the US with a nuclear weapon I don’t see why they’d use an ICBM which makes the source of the attack pretty obvious and undeniable. Much easier to sneak one in through a shipping container and take out a major port. Who exactly is this ludicrous system meant to protect the country against?
It’s meant to protect cronies from poverty. Or, you know, from being less mind-bogglingly rich.
The main driver of this project is Equinor, the Norwegian government’s oil company, so there’s actually a page of analysis of this in my morning newspaper.
According to it, they used every avenue they had, including the Norwegian government, their American suppliers and local and state politicians. And it was a dialogue between governor Hochul and Trump that solved it.
They also say they lost half a billion Norwegian kroner a week due to the stop order(ca. 50 million dollars), so I can understand the urgency and amount of pressure they built up.

How to Make a Dadaist Poem
(method of Tristan Tzara)
To make a Dadaist poem:
- Take a newspaper.
- Take a pair of scissors.
- Choose an article as long as you are planning to make your poem.
- Cut out the article.
- Then cut out each of the words that make up this article and put them in a bag.
- Shake it gently.
- Then take out the scraps one after the other in the order in which they left the bag.
- Copy conscientiously.
- The poem will be like you.
- And here are you a writer, infinitely original and endowed with a sensibility that is charming though beyond the understanding of the vulgar.
–Tristan Tzara

Mr. Trump probably is an avant-garde artist.
Well, it’s not good when the guards are lawfully guarding against others, but when the others they were guarding against become the new guards then it is imperative that the new guards are not impeded in their guarding. Got it?
Worth reading every word of that article. So many succinct, quotable sentences. Thanks for posting it.
(And for including the archive link. Apparently, despite never having read that paper before, I had “reached my free article limit” the moment I went there!)
A federal judge on Tuesday ordered the Trump administration to not let a group of migrants being flown to South Sudan leave the custody of US immigration authorities after saying they appeared to have been deported in violation of a court order.
US district judge Brian Murphy in Boston during a hastily arranged virtual hearing said that while he was not going to order the airplane to turn around, that was an option the Department of Homeland Security could employ to comply with his order.
Murphy warned that officials could be held in criminal contempt if he found they violated his previous order barring the swift deportation of migrants to countries other than their own before they could raise any concerns that they might face torture or persecution there.
Only $175 billion, operational “in less than three years” with “a success rate close to 100%” - what’s not to like?
