It’s giving Claire Underwood
Doesn’t seem like an accident, does it?
Now Trump is falsely claiming that he sent the military into California to force us to “turn on” the water. My god this is all so stupid:

This is beyond weird. It’s hallucinatory.
Not weird from him. Pretty much what I’ve expexted from him for a long time now. What’s new is that the lap dog corporate press is even more cowed and frightened about doing their jobs of pointing out how weird and hallucinatory the majority of what he says is.
Awesome. That’s a horrifying police state tactic that I’ve experienced in other countries. It intimidates all passengers, not just whoever they’re supposedly looking for.
The bus driver sounds like a toxic gamer that I would hate to encounter online, but today… o7.
I was on a tour bus in Venezuela the day following the 1992 coup attempt, and our bus was boarded and searched by heavily armed soldiers. They left pretty quickly once they realized it was a bus full of gringo tourists from a cruise ship, but it was pretty terrifying. I didn’t realize that was a regular thing in the US, though.
It is now… Make American Like a Couped country again!!! /s
Thank you, anonymous bus driver, for my new favorite epitaph.
I remember when ‘papers, please’ was something Americans used to denigrate communist Russia. Now it’s part of the American experience.
Guess who’s going to be excluded from the Five Eyes?
I was in Bisbee, AZ a few years back & anywhere within 100 miles of the border they’ll just set up a roadblock and pull over everyone to check your vehicle. Not fun.
That’s different! That was commies doing it! When fasci… I mean GOD FEARING AMERICANS do it, it’s okay! /s
Ugh… good reminder that while Trump is taking this shit to it’s logical conclusion, both Obama and Biden veered to the right on this stuff too…
Even without the funding issue, they’d be fools to share intelligence with the US while loose lips Donnie is in charge.
Outside the airports and border crossings , the only place that ever happened to me was in Moscow and Almaty. And one time in Osh, Kyrgyzstan after a terrorist attack, but I’ll give that one a pass.
Even on the trains, they’d check for tickets, but not papers otherwise.
It takes a certain talent to make the former Soviet security apparatus look positively liberal by comparison.
So, most of the most competent people I’ve worked with over the past 1.5 decades are looking for new work. The vindictive and childish moves to freeze already-allocated funds is rippling out faster than the similar moves last time around.
It’s obviously illegal, but most people don’t have 2 years to wait around for this to make its way through the legal system, and I personally am not confident our legal systems will hold up. Shit, it didn’t work as it should for the past 4 years or we wouldn’t be in this precise situation right now.
Anyway, brain drain in progress.
And I know that worrying about employment seems small when people are justifiably worried for their lives, but it is a real concern. And the interruption to services, as noted with the CDC and NIH stuff, suicide prevention hotlines, etc., are going to continue rippling out.
The actions they’re taking now will destroy American competitiveness in research. Once people lose work and start to leave the country for places that do value research and development, it’s unlikely they’ll want to move back. This will obliterate scientific research in the US, and if it’s not reversed soon, it will likely take decades to undo the damage.
