The goddamn Trump Administration

Maybe time for a new British invasion? This time, making one of the still living Beatles our president? I’d take a Ringo presidency.

Because the Supreme Court last year declared that the President has presumptive immunity against criminal prosecution for any officials acts done while President. Firing these IGs is an official act, so how would anyone stop him? Well…there’s not actually a crime to even charge him with. Just because Congress said the President has to give them 30 days notice and a good reason why an IG is being fired doesn’t mean they made not doing that a crime. So the only recourse is a lawsuit. Someone with standing would have to sue the United States, asking for an injunction against the firing, or reinstatement of the IGs. This would probably have to be the fired IGs themselves. So they could sue the government. And if Trump is good at one thing, it’s causing delays in lawsuits. So by the time this lawsuit works its way to the Supreme Court, it will probably be 2027 or 2028. And then SCOTUS will probably declare that the law Congress passed requiring 30 days notice is unconstitutional and toss out the case.

Welcome to fascism! Ain’t it grand!

I meant while he was actually saying all those lies I know the how and why he can get away with his actions.

I know, I know, if anyone actually stood up and said “What living heck are you talking about? That’s not how it works!” they’d get roughly ejected from the room, prolly mistreated quite a bit after that.

People have done that in the past, haven’t they? Or is it a fiction, like “The Emperor’s New Clothes” that we’re sposed to learn from but obviously don’t/haven’t. Or like this fiction?

sign, i always have questions that i should learn to make clearer

I mean…we learned all these lessons during WWII, but a lot of people are convinced “That Can’t Happen Here” so they rationalize and convince themselves that this is normal.

/squints What the fuck?

Yeah. Did he actually do anything? He can’t do what he claimed/promised wrt water in California, so he has to rely on gaslighting everyone into thinking he’s done so, which means not doing anything is just as effective as doing something.

It’s even stupider than you might think.

So here’s what actually happened:

the federal government “restarted federal water pumps after they were offline for maintenance for three days”

Oh. My. Gods. That’s actually more ridiculous than I expected. No military, obviously no water from PNW, no action on his part whatsoever. I don’t know if he said this just to pretend like he’s taking bold action, or if it’s cover for him to allow some disaster aid to California (after someone convinced him it would be bad for him if he withheld it). Although it occurs to me that Trump is starting to make these kinds of insane claims to normalize when he actually does start sending the military into states.

Yeah, it’s more gaslighting and posturing of his usual sort. Reality simply doesn’t come into it.

Donald Trump’s repeated threat to take control of Greenland one way or another has aroused a sense of alarm across Europe.

My dad served in the Pacific at that time, but he knew. He taught us that.

THEN he fucking and goes voting for fucking REAGAN but I don’t know/remember why he didn’t vote Dem over Dukakis, you know? I think that was the first time he voted GOP in his entire life, and he did regret it.

Coup attempt. Time to act. Second screenshot has a script for calling Congress. Third shows at least one state attorney general responding strongly. Maybe call your state a.g. as well as congress?

Here’s what I emailed my congresswoman: Last night Trump gave orders that violate the Constitution. As you know better than anyone, Congress has the power of the purse. Trump’s illegal order trying to seize that power by freezing federal funding is a coup attempt to consolidate all power in the presidency and sideline Congress’s powers. It will produce chaos and devastation across the nation and the world. We need you to act, immediately and strongly, against this lawless dictatorial act.

And my senators:

Dear Senator…,

Last night’s illegal order to freeze federal funds allocated by Congress is nothing less than a coup attempt, a seizure of Congress’s power of the purse. As you know better than anyone. For the survival of democracy and the prevention of a dictatorship, we need every member of Congress not in Trump’s pocket to stand up against this and take back its powers. This is an emergency.

Stop this slide into autocracy.

He can’t. Not legally, anyways, any more than he can end the 14th amendment. The law is pretty clear on this. The crazy thing is that people (esp. the press) are pretending there’s some argument to be made that he can, when he’s very clearly violating specific legislation/the constitution. (Even worse are those arguing, “Sure, he’s probably violating the law/the constitution, but people voted for him - that’s democracy!”)

I think he’s trying to tank this country super fast so he can declare martial law and make the dictatorship official.

I wouldn’t be surprised if there’s gonna be another riot in DC…only it won’t just be the Capitol Building that’d be breached. And the basest of the base will be the ones doing it.

certainly looks that way to me, too!
